2017 NFL FOOTBALL – WEEK 5 BIG GAMES

AWAY QUICK THOUGHTS HOME
Computer Hope It’s Tampa Bay so obviously Jameis Winston avoiding mistakes is key here. Tampa has played 2 home games this season & are 2-0 with Winston throwing 4TD passes with 0INT. The Bucs have played one road game & are 0-1 with Winston having thrown 2TD passes & 3INT! New England has one of the worst defenses in the league, but a loss here drops the Patriots to 2-3! It’s not must win, but 2-3? That’s insanity! Computer Hope
Computer Hope This game is more important than it looks. The Bills have a bye week after they play the Bengals & after their bye they get two home games against Tampa Bay & Oakland (who could be without Derek Carr!). Following those two games they are on the road against the Jets, home against the Saints & then back on the road against the Chargers. Buffalo could potentially be 9-1 before they play a road date against the Chiefs! Computer Hope
Computer Hope Could the Jets really push their winning streak to an incredible 3 games!? The last two games for New York have been at home whereas the first two (losses) were on the road so the Jets will have to play a little better away from New York. Then again, it’s Cleveland and DeShone Kizer has been a turnover machine for the Browns. After this week the Jets could be 3-2, the Bills 4-1, the Patriots 2-3 & the Dolphins 1-3! Nuts! Computer Hope
Computer Hope This might be the game of the week with both teams coming in at 3-1. Games like this are interesting from a tiebreaker perspective because if both teams keep winning they’ll be up against each other in either the Wild Card race for the #5 or #6 seed but also if both win the division then they’ll be playing for positions within the top-4 seeds. It’ll be interesting to see if Cam Newton can win back to back huge road games. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The crazy never stops for the Indianapolis Colts! After being arguably the 2nd worst team in the NFL over the first 4 weeks of the season, Andrew Luck is now back at practice throwing & the Colts get to host the 49ers this week. If you assume win, Indy will improve to 2-3. The Jags are in PIttsburgh. The Titans are in Miami & the Texans are at home against KC. Could every team in the AFC South be 2-3 after Week 5? Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Titans have to be careful here. If Marcus Mariota doesn’t play I think the Dolphins come out of this with a win. The Dolphins are too talented on offense to keep sputtering like this & Adam Gase is too good a head coach to continue to allow it. The Titans needs to stick to grounding and pounding. It not only keeps Mariota upright, but it plays to Tennessee’s strength which is their running attack & offensive line. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The good news is that somebody is going to get their first win of the season. The bad news is that either the Giants or Chargers are going to come out of this contest with an 0-5 record! The one thing to watch here is Los Angeles’ pass rush is outstanding while the Giants O-line is terrible. That in and of itself should be enough to push the Chargers to their first win, but the Bolts seemingly figure out ways to lose games. Computer Hope
Computer Hope I don’t think this will be much of a contest as the Cardinals are one of the worst teams in the NFL while the Eagles are playing like one of the league’s most ELITE teams. LeGarrette Blount flashed last week against the Chargers & if that kind of running continues, this one is going to get ugly for Arizona. Oddly enough, Philly is a little weak in the secondary so maybe Larry Fitzgerald can get loose. It won’t be nearly enough. Computer Hope
Computer Hope This is exactly why you don’t drop games to the Jets. Going into Pittsburgh with Blake Bortles at the helm with the Steelers defense playing well is a recipe for disaster. If the Jaguars figure out a way to win then fantastic, but most likely it’s a loss. If Jacksonville would have beaten the Jets, they’d be 3-1 so a loss drops them to 3-2 & guarantees them a spot at the top of the South. Now a Titans or Texans win has them 1 back. Computer Hope
Computer Hope This is a game ripe for Baltimore to get a significant road win. The Raiders will be playing without David Carr and the Ravens have to show something after the last two weeks they’ve had. It’ll be interesting to see if Baltimore will ground & pound which is something they should be doing but get away from all the time. We’ll also get to see what EJ Manuel can do with a playoff team around him. Oakland can’t afford to go 2-3. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Rams 3-1 start is outstanding, but I think we’ve all been waiting for this game to determine if the Rams are for real, or rather just pretending to be the first place team in the NFC West that we know the Seahawks to be. Seattle might be playing without Chris Carson & note that the Rams are +8 in sack differential. Given Seattle’s O-Line problems, the Rams could make another statement about their legitimacy. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Last week’s loss to the Rams doesn’t make a lot of sense, and unfortunately for Dallas this puts them in a must win game against the Packers. Interestingly enough, Aaron Rodgers has been sacked 15 times this season while the Cowboys defense is +6 in sack differential. If the Packers are still without their starting tackles, Demarcus Lawrence might run absolutely wild on Green Bay. It’s gut check time for the Dallas Cowboys. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Last week’s beating of Tennessee was impressive. Now let’s see if Houston can do it again against the best team in the NFL. You can be for sure that Alex Smith isn’t going to throw 4 interceptions & the Kansas City defense is miles ahead of the Titans defense. Rookie QBs are known to be wildly inconsistent. Deshaun Watson had a great game last week, but he’ll need to be greater this week for Houston to pull out this game! Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Vikings defense will still be tough, but the Bears look like they’ll face a Vikings team without Sam Bradford and without Dalvin Cook. At Soldier Field, this looks like a winnable game for Chicago which is interesting because it’ll be Mitch Trubisky’s debut as the Bears starting QB. A win over a division rival would boost his confidence immediately. The Bears aren’t terrible & could potentially be sneaky good if Trubisky clicks. Computer Hope

NFL POWER 32 – 2017 WEEK 4

RANK TEAM COMMENTS
#1 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Redskins 29-20. Alex Smith is making a tremendous case for being MVP & if the season ended after 4 weeks, it’d be impossible not to give him the award. The Chiefs run a pretty balanced offense & the emergence of Kareem Hunt has helped, but Smith is completing 76% of his passes with 8TD to 0INT! Smith is averaging 288 yards per game & that’s for the most part playing without a true #1 WR. The pass rush needs to get better, but this is the last undefeated team in the NFL. They’re good.
#2 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Chargers 26-24. Now THAT is the kind of production the Eagles were hoping they’d get when they signed LeGarrette Blount! Blount was dominant rushing for 136 yards on just 16 carries & even had a reception that went for 20 yards. The Eagles aren’t exactly murdering teams, but they keep winning & their only loss so far was a 7-point affair at Kansas City. The defense is -2 in sack differential & have recorded just 10 sacks thus far. To me this means the defense can get quite a bit better.
#3 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Falcons 23-17. Raise your hand if you saw that coming? Beating the Falcons in Buffalo would be one thing, but beating them in Georgia? Nobody will have Buffalo this high, but where else can you rank them? At 3-1 & having just beaten the Falcons in Atlanta, they have to rank higher than the Falcons & how low can you rank Atlanta? They also have to rank higher than Denver! Tyrod Taylor isn’t making mistakes & playing within his abilities while the defense ranks #1 in scoring defense.
#4 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Bills 17-23. For the most part Atlanta dominated the Bill statistically. If Atlanta wasn’t -3 in TO margin for the game including a TD on a fumble return & Stephen Hauschka wasn’t bombing 50+ yard FGs in the 4th quarter, the Falcons win this game going away. Games like this happen although the sting still bites. It’s hard to drop Atlanta too far. They still have wins over Detroit & Green Bay who are a combined 6-2. The rushing attack was amazing against the Bills. Can’t commit turnovers.
#5 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Raiders 16-10. That Bills loss last week doesn’t look nearly so bad after Buffalo beat the Falcons in Atlanta. Credit to the Broncos who came off a loss & was able to focus enough to pull out a close one against a hated rival. Not a pretty win by any means but Trevor Siemian avoided mistakes, CJ Anderson ran the ball very well and the defense was outstanding holding Oakland to 24 yards rushing, knocking Derek Carr out of the game & turning the Raiders over once. That’s their formula.
#6 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Bears 35-14. It’s going to be hard to beat the Packers when Aaron Rodgers completes 69% of his passes and tosses 4 TDs like he did against the Bears in a Thursday night beat down of the Bears. Green Bay suffered losses to Ty Montgomery & Jamaal Williams during the game & didn’t really skip a beat. The Packers are still dealing with injuries. It’s unclear if David Bakhtiari & Bryan Bulaga will suit up Sunday & Ty Montgomery will probably miss time. Rodgers has been sacked 15 times so far!
#7 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Vikings 14-7. If you are a Lions fan you can’t help but be encouraged by Matthew Stafford’s performance over the last 3 weeks. Oh he didn’t do much you say? That’s exactly the point. In Week 2 Stafford threw only 21 passes & Detroit beat the Giants. In Week 3 was 25/45 for 264 and the Lions still had a chance to beat Atlanta late. This past week Stafford was 19/31 for 209 yards and didn’t throw a TD pass yet the Lions still beat Minnesota 14-7. What happens when Stafford heats up a bit!?
#8 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Patriots 33-30. The blowout loss to the Saints doesn’t make any sense, but the Panthers have wins over the Bills & Patriots so how low can you really rank them? Cam Newton was absolutely horrible in Week 3 against the Saints, but came back the following week against New England lit the Patriots up going 22/29 for 316 yards & 3TDs! Newton can’t keep taking beatings that is for sure, but his confidence is the thing that will determine if Carolina can keep building on their 3-1 beginning.
#9 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Ravens 26-9. The Antonio Brown incident is unfortunate to be sure because things like that can destroy team chemistry, but Ben Roethlisberger & Mike Tomlin run a pretty tight ship so I doubt it will be much of a distraction. Brown I’m sure is frustrated. He’s caught one TD pass all season & I’m sure Pittsburgh will keep feeding him the football. You can’t read too much into the win over the Ravens. Baltimore is dreadful & Pittsburgh played an excellent game. The Chicago loss drops them here.
#10 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Panthers 30-33. The defense is a problem. New England ranked #1 in the NFL last year in scoring defense. So far in 2017 they rank #31. If it wasn’t for Indianapolis being horrific, the Patriots would have the worst defense in the NFL! At the same time, look what New England has done with that defense? Tom Brady is on pace to throw for 5600yds/40TD. Their losses have come to KC & Carolina who are a combined 7-1. The D needs to improve & Brady is on pace to get sacked 52 times!
#11 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Chiefs 20-29. So you lose at Arrowhead. It’s not the end of the world but Washington has to feel bad about giving up that big play to Albert Wilson late in the 4th which led to KC kicking a FG that put the Chiefs up 23-20 & leaving the Redskins just 4 seconds on the clock. To date the Redkins have played the most difficult schedule in the NFL with their strength of schedule at 12-4. Kirk Cousins is playing well. The edge rush is solid & they are running well. I think they can get even better.
#12 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Cowboys 35-30. That was a statement win! The Cowboys are probably overrated just a bit but going into Jerry World & handing the Cowboys a defeat was no small task for the upstart Rams who now find themselves 3-1 & all along atop the NFC West. The Rams are scoring at will with the #1 scoring offense in the NFL. Todd Gurley has played amazingly well & Jared Goff is playing like a perfect point guard. The defense is +8 in sack differential which is a great sign. They’re for real.
#13 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Lions 7-14. The loss of Dalvin Cook for the rest of the season is catastrophic for the Vikings. Jerick McKinnon & Latavius Murray together can’t make up for the loss of Cook who is a legitimate 3-down back that gives Minnesota a tremendous weapon on offense. If Sam Bradford can’t get healthy then the season could get away from the Vikings before it starts. I feel bad for HC Mike Zimmer. He has the Vikings knocking on the door of the Super Bowl, but something always seems to miss.
#14 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Jaguars 23-20. Don’t look now but the Jets are on a 2-game winning streak. If you had told anyone before the season that after 4 weeks the Jets would be 2-2 and the Giants would be 0-4, they would have probably thought you reversed the records. Nope. The Jets are 2 games ahead of the G-Men! Are the Jets really the 14th best team in the NFL? No, but right now they have to rank ahead of Jacksonville as the Jags are 2-2 as well. To be fair, Josh McCown hasn’t been all that bad.
#15 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Jets 20-23. How is this for crazy: The Jaguars are #5 in scoring offense, #6 in scoring offense, are +6 in turnover margin and lead the NFL is sack differential at +15! They are +35 in point differential as well. All of those numbers are better than Kansas City, yet the Jags are 2-2 with losses to the Jets & Titans! Go figure! Imagine if Allen Robinson & DeDe Westbrook had been healthy!? If the Jaguars can get a bit more consistent with their secondary play, they’ll be a pretty complete team.
#16 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Dolphins 20-0. The Dolphins offense is turning out to be absolutely awful so you can’t read too much into the shutout, but New Orleans now ranks 12th in scoring defense & their sack differential is +7. They have a reputation of playing ZERO defense, but so far they are proving that wrong. I think New Orleans has a star in Alvin Kamara & I’d expect him to be used more and more. Drew Brees is going to be excellent, but if Kamara emerges as a 3-down back & the D keeps up this pace? Dangerous!
#17 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Rams 30-35. The Cowboys had absolutely no answer for Todd Gurley and I still think they are mishandling the pass/rush combination just a bit. I don’t think Dallas is at its best when Dak Prescott is throwing the ball 40 times per game. Dallas has to be very careful at this point. Five of their next 6 games comes against the Packers, Redskins, Falcons, Eagles & Chiefs. They play the 49ers after their bye week, but from this point forward there really isn’t an easy win on the schedule. Tough.
#18 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Titans 57-14. The most surprising game of the week was the Titans getting HAMMERED down in Houston after slapping Seattle around! I didn’t expect that to happen. A lot of power rankings are overreacting and putting Houston in their Top-10. That’s ridiculous. This is still the same team that barely beat Cincinnati & lost to the Jags who were just beaten by the Jets. You have to be impressed with Deshaun Watson’s play, but what happens when defenses catch on to what he’s doing well?
#19 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Giants 25-23. It keeps holding true that when Jameis Winston plays well, the Bucs win. Against the Giants, Winston was 22/38 for 338yds & 3TD without throwing an interception. The Bucs ran well behind Jacquizz Rodgers & they have a boatload of weapons on the edge. What’s somewhat troubling is that they needed a FG with 0:00 on the clock to pull out a win over a winless Giants team…..in Tampa Bay! I like this Bucs team but so far all they’ve done is beat the Bears and NY Giants.
#20 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Broncos 10-16. The drop off from Derek Carr to EJ Manuel is SUBSTANTIAL! You can’t help but wonder if the reports are true that the Raiders O-Line laid down to get Carr sacked a week ago when the Raiders lost to the Redskins because Carr wouldn’t kneel during the national anthem. Now Carr’s spine is fractured & he is going to miss 2-6 weeks. Did the O-Line contribute to this? Injuries are sometimes cumulative so it’s possible. What to make of all this? It’s mind numbing to be sure.
#21 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Texans 14-57. It’s very difficult to win games when you commit 5 turnovers. Tennessee really never had the ball to get anything going on offense & Houston for the most part played perfect football. When those two things happen, blowouts can occur. We are seeing this with Derek Carr a bit in Oakland, but one thing that matters to these teams with franchise QBs is their ability to stay healthy. Mariota is hurt again & this is becoming more than norm. The great QBs stayed healthy.
#22 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Colts 46-18. As with Houston, some power rankings are losing their minds ranking Seattle barely outside the top-5 (I’m looking at you ESPN!). They beat the Indianapolis Colts for crying out loud in Seattle! If you didn’t think Seattle would win this game by 30 you were off your rocker. They won by 28. So far the Seahawks have beaten the Colts & 49ers, two teams with a combined record of 1-7. They’ve played two potential playoff teams in the Packers & Titans. They lost both. That’s top-5?
#23 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Packers 14-35. The Mitch Trubisky era begins now! You can’t really fault the Bears here. They gave Mike Glennon 4 games to see what he can do and Glennon fumbled the ball 5 times & has thrown 5 interceptions. The Bears have the worst TO margin in the league at -7 & you aren’t going to win any games if you keep turning the ball over. I’m not sure Trubisky will find the going any easier, but Chicago has a solid O-Line & they can run. If he avoids errors, the Bears are competitive.
#24 Computer Hope Last Week Beat 49ers 18-15. You need OT at home to beat the Brian Hoyer led San Francisco 49ers!? It’s worse in Arizona than I thought. The game against San Francisco is illustrative of how dependent the Cardinals are on David Johnson. Yes Carson Palmer used to be fantastic, but he can’t throw the ball 51 times & Arizona be successful. With Johnson, they needed him to be the primary focus with Palmer making plays to keep the defenses somewhat honest. With Johnson gone, that strategy also leaves.
#25 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Steelers 9-26. It’s not a good look to get blown out by your rival in your own backyard. This isn’t a good team. Baltimore’s two wins came against the Browns and against the Bengals before Andy Dalton decided to start playing. Cincy & Cleveland are a combined 1-7. Since then Baltimore has played real teams & haven’t come close to winning. Against Pittsburgh the Ravens ran the ball 15 times while Joe Flacco threw the ball 49 times. Pitiful game planning on the part of the Ravens coaches.
#26 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Saints 0-20. The London games are complete garbage. That was supposed to be a home game for the Dolphins? Ridiculous. I’m not really sure what is going on with Miami. They should be better than this, but losing back-to-back games against the Jets & Saints doesn’t make sense after starting the year with a road win against the Chargers. Miami was pretty sloppy over in England. They turned the ball over, were terrible on 3rd down and committed 11 penalties. They’re better than this.
#27 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Eagles 24-26. At some point it becomes laughable. The Chargers lost another close game against an ELITE team. They are 0-4 with a point differential of -21! Three of their four losses have come by a combined 8 points! They make a great argument for being 3-1! I don’t think all is lost for the Bolts. Keep this in mind: so far LA has played the 2nd most difficult schedule in the NFL with their SOS at 11-4. They are also +6 in sack differential against that schedule. It’s not over!!
#28 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Browns 31-7. In his last two games, Andy Dalton is 46/57 (81%) for 498 yards & 6TD without throwing a pick. Sure one game came against Cleveland, but Dalton lit up Green Bay as well. It should also be noted that Joe Mixon has 35 carries over the last two games with 7 receptions on 7 targets. In Cincinnati’s first two games they were -5 in TO margin. Their last 2 games they are even. Dalton playing better. Mixon sharing the load. Quit turning the ball over. That’s how you win games!
#29 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Bucs 25-28. The Giants are very much going the same route as the Chargers. Another close loss which gives them 2 on the season. They’ve played the 4th most difficult schedule thus far with their SOS being 10-5. They don’t have the sack differential that the Chargers do but they are only -2 in TO margin. Eli Manning is on pace to be sacked 32 times this season. He’s been sacked 30 times in just 2 prior seasons and the Giants have missed the playoffs both years. That tells you something.
#30 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Seahawks 18-46. I’m not getting crazy with Seattle after being the Colts, and I’m not getting crazy with Indianapolis just because they went up to Seattle & got hammered by the Seahawks. You could see that coming from a mile away. At this point in time you have to start wondering when Andrew Luck is coming back. Indy is only a game out of first & Luck is BY FAR the best QB in the division with every team looking vulnerable at times. Can we imagine the Colts winning the division!?
#31 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Cardinals 15-18. You can’t lump the 49ers in with the Giants & Chargers, but the similarities are pretty striking. The 49ers have a point differential of only -28 despite being 0-4. Their last 3 losses have come by a combined 8 points. Could the 49ers be 3-1 right now? It’s certainly possible. I know it’s a passing league but SF can’t possibly believe allowing Brian Hoyer to throw the ball 49 times while Carlos Hyde rushes 16 times in a close game is the way to win. I don’t get teams doing this ratio.
#32 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Bengals 7-31. The battle of Ohio and the battle to see which team can win their first game was a decisive win for the Bengals. Being 0-4 is one thing, but the Browns have had 3 games against the Ravens, Colts & Bengals. Those teams are a combined 4-8 and the Ravens aren’t a .500 team right now. DeShone Kizer is a complete disaster at this point & if the Browns continue to get QB play like this, then they might be looking at an 0-16 season. Maybe they get another #1 overall pick?

NFC ANALYSIS

NFC EAST: Every week is a season and the NFC East was brutal in Week 1 with two divisional games. Obviously the division changes with the possibility of Ezekiel Elliott playing the full season. Right now the East breaks down to: 1)PHI, 2)DAL, 3)NYG & 4)WAS which seems conceivable at this point. Odell Beckham getting healthy is imperative for the Giants and the Redskins finding rhythm on offense would help. The Eagles & Cowboys being playoff teams seems plausible.

NFC NORTH: The tiebreakers are a bit odd this early in the season. It’s staying with the season narrative that the Lions, Vikings & Packers are fighting for the North but the tiebreakers are combined rank within the conference with respect to points scored & points allowed so it’s a bit tricky. That tiebreaker leaves the Vikings at #1 in the division followed by Detroit & Green Bay. What does seem interesting is that the Bears played the Falcons hard so while the Bears are probably not a wild card team and definitely not a division winner, they could have a significant say in who does win the North & who could possibly get a wild card berth.

NFC SOUTH: Carolina’s 23-3 win over the 49ers gave the enough juice in the tiebreakers to be the #1 seed i the NFC. The South was easy with the Panthers in 1st following by Atlanta. Tampa being 0-0 slots in at #3 while the Saints wind up 4th after losing their opener to the Vikings. The South is completely up for grabs at this point because I think all 4 teams will have a say at some point. Seeing how competitive the Saints can be at home in Week 2 against the Patriots will be telling.

NFC WEST: Easy slot for the Rams as they were the only NFC West team to win in Week 1. Their win came against Indianapolis and the other division leaders beat NFC teams so LA’s conference record is 0-0 slotting them into the 4th seed. Obviously this will change. The Rams looking that dominant without Aaron Donald could change the complexion of the division just a bit. Seattle still seems like the overwhelming favorites, but the Rams could be the 2nd place team and thus at least in play for a potential wild card berth depending on how they keep playing.

WILD CARD GAMES AFTER WEEK 1

#6 ATLANTA @ #3 MINNESOTA
#5 DALLAS @ #4 LOS ANGELES

Unless the Seahawks completely implode (and we are REALLY WRONG about the Rams upside) then that 4/5 matchup doesn’t happen. That is WAY TOO BAD because there are two team that the Cowboys have played 8 times in the playoffs: the Rams & Packers with 8 games each which is the most the Cowboys have ever played another team in the postseason. Both the Rams & Cowboys have won 4 of those 8 games. The 6/3 game is completely plausible although it would mean the Falcons being a wild card which might seem odd. I don’t think these two games remain for long in the playoff scenarios but both would be fantastic games.

AFC ANALYSIS

AFC EAST: Yeah this won’t hold. New England’s opening week loss to the Chiefs combined with the Dolphins canceling their game against Tampa Bay ensured that the winner of the Jets/Bills game would mean the winner would wind up in 1st place in the AFC East! Obviously this will change. It’s interesting though that at this point the Patriots would be the #11 seed. What is interesting here is that if the Dolphins lose to the Chargers in Week 2, the Bills could lose and still be in first place because their division record would be 1-0 and they’d be 1-1, the same as New England assuming the Patriots beat the Saints in Week 2.

AFC NORTH: No shock here. The Ravens hold the tiebreaker over the the Steelers because of combined conference rank in points scored and points allowed. Shutting out the Bengals gave the Ravens the #1 defense in the AFC and that was more than enough to push Baltimore past Pittsburgh. Nothing completely crazy if you think the Ravens & Steelers are potential playoff teams. The only problem is that the Bengals look horrible offensively so it’s possible they could flirt with the basement assuming the Browns keep playing as competitively as they did against Pittsburgh in Week 1.

AFC SOUTH: I had the Titans & Jaguars at the top of the division anyway so Week 1 isn’t that shocking to me. What is rather shocking is how Jacksonville DESTROYED Houston. If the Jaguars can keep their plan in place of running the ball hard & playing swarming defense, then the division is definitely in play & the Jaguars are even a potential wild card team. This assumes the Titans keep gumming it up with passing more than they run. The Colts are already the 16th seed & if Andrew Luck remains on the sidelines, they might take up permanent residence in the basement.

AFC WEST: Denver is in 1st place because they beat San Diego so their division record is 1-0. The Chiefs beating New England and the Raiders beating Tennessee give them conference wins, but the Broncos lead by virtue of the division win. I think Week 1 illustrated just how insane the division is. If the Chargers defense didn’t need a quarter or quarter & a half to wake up on defense, we me be talking about the Chargers in 1st place due to divisional record. I start to wonder if the West can get 1-2 wild card berths because they are going to hammer each other.

WILD CARD GAMES AFTER WEEK 1:

#6 PITTSBURGH @ #3 BUFFALO
#5 OAKLAND @ #4 DENVER

How tantalizing is that 4/5 matchup being a 3rd contest between heated division rivals!? Buffalo/Pittsburgh isn’t going to happen. That’s an idiosyncrasy of the playoff seedings after a single week. I thought it very interesting how close the AFC West is to having 3 playoff teams and sweeping both wild card seeds. The Chiefs are #7. Even the Chargers who are 0-1 get the #9 seed! I think a good story line going forward is seeing if the West can get 3 teams in. The West is nuts because in a lot of was I could see them getting only 1 playoff team because they’ll beat on each other. On the other hand, I think all 4 teams could make a HUGE case they are good enough to be playoff teams.

2017 NFL FOOTBALL – WEEK 2 BIG GAMES

AWAY QUICK THOUGHTS HOME
Computer Hope Starting off 0-2 isn’t the worst, but I don’t think either of these teams can afford another loss. Both the Bengals and Texans weren’t just beaten last week, they were hammered at home by teams that shouldn’t have blown them out. I’m interested to see how each teams bounces back & especially interested in seeing if Andy Dalton can have a big game after the horrific 4-interception outing last week against the Ravens. Computer Hope
Computer Hope After Week 1 there is only one undefeated team in the AFC South and it’s the…..Jaguars! Jacksonville did everything right last week against the Texans & now they return home against a Titans team that seemingly lost their identity last week against Oakland. I’m interested to see if the Titans can get back to their power football behind Derrick Henry & DeMarco Murray. The Jags had 10 sacks last week. Can they encore? Computer Hope
Computer Hope I think DeShone Kizer is going to have a very rough time because the Baltimore defense is on point and I think their D-Line is a bit underrated with guys like Brandon Williams & Brent Urban. It’ll be interesting to see if the Ravens keep leaning on Buck Allen & Terrance West in the run game, limiting Joe Flacco’s passing attack, which I think is the right strategy. I think Baltimore starts 2-0 with 2 divisional victories. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Beating the Jets wasn’t anything to really write home about, but Buffalo has an opportunity to see what they can do against a Carolina team that is coming off a 23-3 win over the 49ers. Buffalo is a team considered to be playing for a draft pick, but LeSean McCoy is outstanding, Tyrod Taylor is pretty good & the O-line is solid. The defense can get after it a bit with Jerry Hughes & Shaq Lawson. Maybe they aren’t horrible. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Maybe not the game of the week, but this one is interesting because New Orleans is always a tough place to play and if Alex Smith can lead the Chiefs to 42 points against New England, isn’t it fare to say that Drew Brees could find quite a bit of daylight? They Saints are going to have a hard time defensively, and obviously the Patriots are going to make some big adjustments after their opening week loss, but this could be close. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Last week the Cardinals probably should have beaten the Lions. If not for a 4th quarter collapse and the loss of RB David Johnson, Arizona is 1-0 with a victory over a playoff team from last season. Carson Palmer looks like he’s done, but against the hapless Colts, Arizona should be able to get back on track. Indianapolis just gave up 46 to the Rams & they’ll be trotting out Scott Tolzien or Jacoby Brissett. That’s terrible. Computer Hope
Computer Hope What a Week 2 game!!! It’s really disappointing that Ronald Darby & Eric Berry miss these games to be honest as it would have made the matchup even greater. Losing Berry is a tough out because you saw Kansas City last week make use of him on TE Rob Gronkowski. I’m guessing we might have saw the same thing this week with Berry going up against Philly TE Zach Ertz. It’ll be interesting to see how KC plays D. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Minnesota didn’t see from New Orleans the type of D-Line and edge rush that the Steelers are going to bring on Sunday. This will be a big test to see exactly where this Vikings O-Line is against ELITE teams. I think it’ll also be interesting to see what the Steelers offense does against an ELITE defense. They got away from running Le’Veon Bell and I wonder if Pittsburgh will get back to a more physical approach this week. Computer Hope
Computer Hope I’m sure before the season began the Bucs thought this might be an easy out for them, but Chicago played exceedingly well against the Falcons last week and now get a week to refine their approach & improve on the things that worked last week. Tampa missed their opener against Miami so they still might have some rust to work through in their first game of the season. Tampa should win, but the Bears are surprising us! Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Chargers need this win in the worst way. They have to be hoping the Dolphins are still a little rusty from not playing in Week 1 and that Jay Cutler will be a bit off in his Miami debut. On the other hand it’s the Chargers so who knows exactly how they’ll play. I don’t think San Diego can afford to start the year 0-2. While it’s possible the Chiefs & Broncos lose this week, Oakland wins & that would put the Bolts 2 games back. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Jets are arguably the worst team in the NFL excepting the Colts while Oakland looks like a team ready for the Super Bowl. Oakland’s secondary proved surprisingly effective last week against the Titans and that trend probably continues this week against a Jets team that basically plays without a serviceable QB. I think this is a week where the Raiders offense goes nuts and everyone gets involved gaining confidence. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Losing Desean Jackson is brutal for Washington especially if Josh Doctson is a bust. Last week against Philly, the Redskins simply had no outside threat. Jamison Crowder is great in the slot & I love Terrelle Pryor’s size, but defenses can squeeze down & make life tough on Kirk Cousins. Former Redskins OC Sean McVay is now HC of the Rams & Washington should certainly recognize the offense. I think LA wins. Computer Hope
Computer Hope I thought Denver did a good job last week running the football behind CJ Anderson & Jamaal Charles which gave QB Trevor Siemian some room to work & he did well. I wonder how much of that resulted from Chargers ILB Denzel Perryman not providing that inside thump? This week Denver gets Sean Lee & Jaylen Smith who are going to make things A LOT tougher. With Zeke running, hard to go against Dallas. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Given how the 49ers played last week against the Panthers, and the fact that this game is in Seattle, there doesn’t seem any way possible that San Francisco shocks us and pulls off a victory. Playing without Reuben Foster also hurts something fierce, but the 49ers still do have quite a bit of young talent on defense & the Seahawks O-Line is dreadful. That will be an interesting match up to watch if nothing else. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Packers go from a possible 2017 NFC Championship game against Seattle last week to a rematch of the 2016 NFC Championship against Atlanta! Keep an eye on the running game for both teams in this one. I think Ty Montgomery is going to get loose at some point & take off this season. The Falcons had a tough time running last week & Green Bay’s D-Line was exceptional against Seattle. I think running wins here. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Are we in store for Matthew Stafford heroics? The Giants should be completely different this week as Odell Beckham Jr. returns the lineup which completely makes over the Giants offense. New York should be a lot more effective this week and I think Paul Perkins runs a lot better as the passing offense opens up. What New York needs to avoid is a Matthew Stafford 4th quarter comeback! Those are becoming common! Computer Hope

NFL POWER 32 – 2017 WEEK 1

RANK TEAM COMMENTS
#1 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Patriots 42-27. Wow! I wasn’t expecting that from the Chiefs. QB Alex Smith looked like he was the QB who had won 5 Super Bowl while Tom Brady started to look….old? RB Kareem Hunt set a rookie record with 246 yards from scrimmage. WR Tyreek Hill & TE Travis Kelce looked like he was in mid-season form. I was skeptical of the offense coming in, but KC put up 42 points on a Patriots defense that led the NFL in scoring defense a year ago. The Eric Berry injury was the only negative on the night.
#2 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Redskins 30-17. If you weren’t all in on Carson Wentz and the Eagles Front-7 on defense, then get on the bandwagon fast while there is still room. Philly’s front-7 was ALL OVER Kirk Cousins in Philly division opener on the road. I liked Philly to win the East, but beating the Skins this bad in D.C. is amazing. Wentz is going to get even better. He’s amazing at getting out of pressure & his decision making will improve. Keep an eye on WR Nelson Agholor. He’s going to have a monster year in the slot.
#3 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Seahawks 17-9. Granted Seattle doesn’t have the best offensive line, but Nick Perry & Mike Daniels looked downright amazing against the Seahawks offensive line. Perry ran around all game long while Daniels was an inside force finishing with 5 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Getting inside pressure from a DT takes a defense from good to great & Green Bay looked the part against Seattle. I think Ty Montgomery is going to play a major role. He’ll get better, but still had a solid game.
#4 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Chiefs 27-42. New England raised their 5th banner and then proceeded to take an absolute whipping at the hands of the Chiefs to open up the 2017 season. It was shocking considering that at times Vegas has the Pats favored by as much as 9.5 points! We aren’t going to hear it too much, but Tom Brady looked off and KC did a great job with Eric Berry covering Rob Gronkowski. The Patriots will make adjustments. They’ll win the East, but hopefully this is just a blip & not a possible trend.
#5 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Giants 19-3. Coming into the season I was sandbagging the Cowboys pretty hard for a few reasons. We didn’t know if Ezekiel Elliott was going to play. We weren’t sure if Dallas could handle a couple of new starters on the O-Line and remain elite. We also wondered if Dallas could generate a pass rush on defense. Now we see that Elliott likely plays the entire year. La’el Collins & Chaz Green played well on the O-Line. Rod Marinelli’s defense is going to be very good. This is an excellent football team.
#6 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Titans 26-16. That was a huge road win. This was a very physical win for the Raiders. Having Marshawn Lynch in the backfield gives Oakland a different dynamic offensively. Yes David Carr was great and yes Amari Cooper is going to have a huge year, but there was a physical toughness on offense that is going to be hard to beat. Defensively the Raiders had great games from CB Sean Smith & safeties Karl Joseph & Reggie Nelson. Having a healthy Mario Edwards makes the defense better!
#7 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Saints 29-19. The one aspect of Minnesota’s game that came into question was their ability to drive the ball vertically and whether or not the offensive line would hold up. Well, the offensive line was outstanding against the Saints in the opener giving QB Sam Bradford a lot of time & he drove the ball vertically to Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Bradford was almost perfect going 27/32 for 346yds/3TD without a pick. Dalvin Cook ran for 127yds & averaged 5.8ypc. It can’t get much better than this.
#8 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Bears 23-17. Let’s hope that was beating Chicago 23-17 was kicking the rust off because if the Bears make a play in the last few seconds of the game, Atlanta loses. If Austin Hooper doesn’t make two spectacular plays, Atlanta loses. Atlanta had no answer for Bears rookie RB Tariq Cohen so that defense needs to tighten up a bit more. Matt Ryan was sharp but the Falcons had a hard time running the football. They need that running game to be as explosive as they were last season.
#9 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Browns 21-18. I dinged the Steelers for much the same reason I dinged the Falcons. They played supposedly inferior opponents and won by margins that were entirely too close. I know Ben Roethlisberger is going to feed Antonio Brown the football & Le’Veon Bell is a solid receiver out of the backfield but Bell is also the best running back in the NFL and only giving him 10 carries doesn’t make any sense. Pittsburgh had 7 sacks on the day with 10 tackles for loss and still only won by 3 points?
#10 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Packers 9-17. I don’t want to overreact too much on this one. There is a very real chance that both of these teams will make it to the NFC Championship game so the Seahawks dropping a week 1 game on the road to a potential Super Bowl team is hardly cause for concern. What is cause for concern is Seattle’s offensive line is dreadful and it might cost the a chance at a championship. The Seahawks have to find some way to develop a running game & be able to give Russell Wilson time to throw.
#11 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Chargers 24-21. Could Trevor Siemian be the….answer? Siemian was great against a stout Chargers rush defense going 17/28 for 219yds/2TD with a pick. He got a little lucky with a dropped interception but also had a couple of drops on big passes. If given time, Siemian can make all the decisions & throws that will help Denver win games. The running game did enough to keep the chains moving while Von Miller & Shaq Barrett were fantastic coming off the edge. Denver looks pretty good.
#12 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Bengals 20-0. Maybe Cincinnati is awful, but going on the road to an AFC North rival and pitching the shutout speaks volumes to the potential of this Ravens team. Give a lot of credit to HC John Harbaugh. This was vintage smash mouth Ravens football as Joe Flacco attempted just 17 passes while the Baltimore backs had 42 rushing attempts! The Ravens defense was bananas! Five sacks, 8 tackles for loss & 5 turnovers. They intercepted Andy Dalton on 4 different occasions. The D is for real.
#13 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Cardinals 35-23. Matthew Stafford was once again ICE in the 4th quarter leading the Lions to a 35-23 comeback after outscoring Arizona 20-6 in the 4Q after trailing the Cardinals 17-15 after 3 quarters. On the day Stafford ended up completing 70%+ of his passes for almost 300 yards & 4TD. The Lions have to figure out a way to run the football to make the offense truly dynamic. Defensively, Detroit’s secondary was outstanding including Glover Quinn, Quandre Diggs & Darius Slay. Great start.
#14 Computer Hope Last Week Game Against Dolphins Cancelled. Last week’s season opener against the Dolphins was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. Initially it was thought that Tampa Bay might have to cancel Week 2’s tilt against Chicago because the game was supposed to take place in Tampa Bay, but the Bucs have decided they’ll host that game so we’ll finally be able to see Tampa Bay’s season kick off.
#15 Computer Hope Last Week Beat 49ers 23-3. This is a tough one. I thought Carolina’s defense was outstanding especially the usual suspects in Thomas Davis, Kawann Short & Luke Kuechly. The O-Line didn’t give up a sack all day which I’m sure Cam Newton appreciated given the beatings he’s taken in recent seasons. On the other hand, Newton has to play a lot better than he does. His accuracy isn’t the best in the NFL. It doesn’t even seem average & his throws sail an awful lot. I like the approach to running but Cam has to improve.
#16 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Broncos 21-24. How many times am I going to buy into San Diego only to be let down!? I’m not even a Chargers fan for crying out loud! San Diego is one of those rare exceptions of a team where you just hand the ball to the QB and tell him to make it happen. SD was far too run heavy early. They need Philip Rivers to dominate & then run instead of vice versa. Not getting TE Hunter Henry a target is insanity. He’s a TE that is capable of 80 receptions for 1000 yards & 15TD. You have to use him!
#17 Computer Hope Last Week Game Against Buccaneers Cancelled. Last week’s opener against Tampa Bay was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. The Dolphins go on the road in Week 2 to the aforementioned Chargers so that game won’t be jeopardy of being lost although Tampa Bay is hosting Chicago so maybe Miami could have been OK with opening up at home. I’m excited to see the Jay Cutler era begin for the Dolphins.
#18 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Texans 29-7. I wasn’t shocked that Jacksonville’s defense played this well or that the Jaguars won the game to begin with because I’m pretty own on Houston given their QB situation, but hammering a division rival on the road by 26 points!? Good grief. Absolutely loved the fact that the Jaguars ran the ball 39 times compared to letting QB Blake Bortles attempt just 21 passes. The Jags offensive line did a great job against Houston’s front. If the Jaguars keep this up they are going to win games!
#19 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Colts 46-9. How about that for a season opener for Rams fans!? The Colts are absolutely terrible so I don’t want to read too much into this but QB Jared Goff was outstanding going 21/29 for 306yds & a TD. Goff got the ball out to 8 different receivers and the Rams even figured a way to run the ball more times than pass it even though Todd Gurley had a hard time getting loose. Combined the offensive output with the fact that Aaron Donald didn’t even play & the Rams prospects are up in a big way.
#20 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Falcons 17-23. If not for a couple of drops on their last drive, the Bears come away with an opening week win against the defending NFC Champions! I was able to watch this entire game & I couldn’t believe how competitive the Bears were. Tariq Cohen is a monster and if the Bears O-Line remains healthy, he’s going to have an incredible rookie season. The defense was flying around & did a great job. QB Mike Glennon looked good. The Bears need to find some receivers quickly!
#21 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Vikings 19-29. I think a major theme for the Saints is going to be their defense. Coming into the season the Vikings were thought to be weak on the O-Line but New Orleans recorded just a single sack & got no turnovers while allowing Dalvin Cook to run for 100+ yards. The D was also bad at topping Minnesota on 3rd down & getting off the field. The defense is going to have to tighten up in a big way for the Saints to remain competitive. They also need to get that round game moving a bit.
#22 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Cowboys 3-19. Eli looks old and haggard. I don’t know how much football the guy has left in him, but man he looked bad. The Giants offense looks completely different without Odell Beckham. They didn’t get rookie TE Evan Engram involved a ton in the offense at all  & the running game looked atrocious. Losing to Dallas on the road isn’t the end of the world and Beckham returns next week, but the Giants were a sexy Super Bowl pick before the season & they just laid a pretty big egg.
#23 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Raiders 16-26. The Titans got a little too cute this weekend and got away from what made Titans football so good last season. Against the Raiders, QB Marcus Mariota attempted 41 passes while RBs Derrick Henry & DeMarco Murray combined to rush 18 times for 69 yards. That’s 3.8ypc which isn’t fantastic but it’s enough to keep the chains moving. This game was never far out of reach so the Titans had little cause to abandon the pass. They must get back to doing what they do best.
#24 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Eagles 17-30. This one stings a bit because it’s a home loss to a division rival, but if we are talking big picture here, you have to keep in mind that I don’t think the Redskins are a better football team than Philadelphia is. Should they lose by 2TDs at home? Probably not, but Washington has an almost completely new set of skill players & they are missing OLB Trent Murphy which is a big loss. It’s going to take some time for things to break right. Philly was on FIRE last week which is tough.
#25 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Lions 23-35. Arizona blew a 4th quarter lead and g0t outscored by 17 points in the 4th quarter which turns a close win into a blowout loss! They also lose David Johnson for quite a bit of time which could put their season in jeopardy before it even really starts. I hate to say it for Arizona, but Carson Palmer looks done & the Cardinals have no real backup. Johnson was pretty much the offense so they don’t have that now. I think the Cardinals would be wise to find their next quarterback.
#26 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Steelers 18-21. Cleveland’s defense showed out even without Myles Garrett! The Browns did a great job stopping Pittsburgh running game and limiting an explosive offense to just 21 points. Rookie QB DeShone Kizer had an up and down game. He took 7 sacks which wasn’t necessarily the O-Line’s fault but rather Kizer’s indecisiveness with the football. Kizer throwing the ball 30 times is too much & Cleveland finding some semblance of a running game would take some pressure off.
#27 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Ravens 0-20. Absolutely NOTHING went right for the Bengals in their season opener. Andy Dalton looked so bad it had even the most ardent of Bengals fans wondering if the Red Rifle’s days should be numbered. I honestly don’t know where the Bengals go from here. I think they need to ride Joe Mixon as hard as they can because it’s possible he’s a transcendent talent. I don’t think at this point you give carries to Gio Bernard or Jeremy Hill. Yes he had a tough time. Keep giving it to him.
#28 Computer Hope Last Week Beat Jets 21-12. Somebody had to win this game, but the Bills did a great job running the football behind LeSean McCoy & Mike Tolbert and taking some pressure off Tyrod Taylor. I thought the Bills defense also did a solid job stopping the Jets running game and creating a couple of turnovers. You have to consider the the level of competition to be sure so I don’t want to overestimate this win, but there were some bright spots. The Bills might not be completely awful, but it’s not a very good roster.
#29 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Jaguars 7-29. The Texans gave up 10 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. They were -10 in sack differential and they were also -4 in TO margin. I’m not sure it was possible for the Texans to get so soundly beaten by an upstart Jaguars team. There is some thought that Houston might have been drained mentally due to Hurricane Harvey, but that was a HUGE LET DOWN! The Texans will have a chance to right the ship, but to be honest I think their QB situation is a disaster right now.
#30 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Panthers 3-23. You knew coming into the season that the 49ers weren’t going to be very good but you could also see a glimmer of hope in the defensive front seven that gave you cause for hope. It was this hope that made Sunday’s game so disappointing as the 49ers couldn’t generate a single sack on Cam Newton and they allowed the Panthers to keep drilling them with the run game. Another disappointment is Reuben Foster’s ankle sprain that could have him out an indefinite amount.
#31 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Bill 12-21. What can you say? The Jets aren’t very good. The Jets D-Line had a pretty good game but that was about it. It’s going to be hard though if that is all the contributions they get as the backend is going to have to stop the run & they didn’t do a great job of that against Buffalo. QB Josh McNown was dreadful but who knows what you are going to get with Christian Hackenburg or Bryce Petty. It is almost impossible for a team to go 0-16, but the Jets could make a run for that record.
#32 Computer Hope Last Week Lost to Rams 9-46. Speaking of teams that might go 0-16, Indianapolis looked like they would have a hard time beating Alabama let alone a legitimate NFL team. This might be a worse team than the Curtis Painter led Colts of 2011. That team finished 2-14 with the #1 overall pick which turned into Andrew Luck. If the Colts got the #1 pick next year who would they take assuming they kept it? Derwin James? Arden Key? De’Ron Payne? Derrius Guice? They’d trade it but the exercise is still fun!

2017 NFL FOOTBALL – WEEK 1 BIG GAMES

AWAY QUICK THOUGHTS HOME
Computer Hope Vegas has the line on this game at New England (-9) which is wild when you consider the Chiefs were 12-4 last season & the #2 seed in the AFC! New England starts their title defense and it’ll be interesting to see how the Patriots perform without Julian Edelman. I also think it’s worth watching Kansas City to see if they can get anything going offensively which won’t be easy against what should be a smothering New England defense. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Here is a crazy thought. If you look at the playoff standings after Week 1, then the winner of this game will be the AFC East champions because their divisional record would be 1-0 with New England & Miami playing non-division games. Before the Bills started their fire sale a few weeks ago, they could have challenged Miami for 2nd place. Keep an eye on Buffalo’s passing attack. If they can find a way to throw the ball, they’ll still be interesting. Computer Hope
Computer Hope I don’t think Chicago has any chance at winning this football game, but consider the Bears schedule going into the season: Atlanta, @Tampa, Pittsburgh, @Green Bay, Minnesota, @Baltimore, Carolina, @New Orleans. After the Saints, Chicago will be on a bye, but does anyone think Chicago can get out of their first 8 without an 0-8 record? How many losses does Mike Glennon take until they give the ball to Mitch Trubisky? Computer Hope
Computer Hope Huge early game in the AFC North as both of these teams should be competing for a Wild Card spot in 2nd place just behind the Steelers. Games like this to me are interesting from a strategic perspective. Does Cincinnati give the ball to Joe Mixon 25 times in this game & see where he can lead the team? The running game needs to be good for Andy Dalton to play off it with the passing game. The Ravens D is a good test. Computer Hope
Computer Hope DeShone Kizer is going to be welcomed to the NFL by a Steelers defense that is going to get AFTER IT on the edge. Vegas has the Steelers as 9 point favorites which is lower than I’d expect. Alejandro Villanueva has turned into a very good LT and I can’t wait to see Myles Garrett matched up against the veteran. Cleveland isn’t going to be able to score enough to win but can Garrett & Emmanuel Ogbah make it tough on Big Ben? Computer Hope
Computer Hope Every week is a season in the NFL and this is the kind of game that proves it. It’s a cool game because you get to see Matt Stafford go up against Carson Palmer, but I think it flies a bit under the radar because Arizona didn’t make the playoffs last season & Detroit was just 9-7. However, this is an incredibly important game when it comes to wild card tiebreakers. Both teams are wild card hopefuls and head to head games are crucial. Computer Hope
Computer Hope There have been some in the media calling for Jacksonville to end the Blake Bortles experiment. We’ll get a pretty good idea of just how good of an idea that is early as Bortles will be facing a TENACIOUS Houston defense on the road. Bortles biggest issues have been turning the ball over & he’ll be facing immense pressure in this game. Does he throw 2-3 picks? If so, the Jaguars season could be over before it even begins. Computer Hope
Computer Hope This game won’t be played on Sunday and supposedly it’ll be made up on November 19th when both teams happen to have the same bye week. Hurricane Irma looks to be closing on Florida so the NFL is taking preemptive measures for safety reasons. I think this makes the 2017 season even tougher for both squads because now they’ll be faced with playing 16 games in 16 straight weeks. Tough for two playoff hopefuls. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Very intriguing game. If there is one knock on the Raiders coming into the season it’s their ability to cover receivers. I think the Titans are still waiting just a bit for Marcus Mariota to step up and completely dominate games & become THAT guy for this franchise. The Raiders are Super Bowl contenders so Mariota stepping up at home & exposing Oakland’s secondary would send a message to the AFC that Tennessee isn’t playing. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The buzz is building around the Eagles. When the lines opened for this game, Vegas had Philly has 2.5 dogs. Now they are 1 point favorites on the road against a Redskins team that could make the playoffs. I think we might be sleeping on the Skins just a bit. Philly could be weak in the secondary & Washington all of a sudden is HUGE on the edge with guys like Terrelle Pryor & Josh Doctson. This could be a huge day for Kirk Cousins. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Aaron Donald holdout is annoying because the Rams JUST MAYBE could be lying in wait here. With no Andrew Luck, I think the chance Indianapolis gets a road win is gone. That should inspire some confidence with the Rams and if Jared Goff has a good game with all his new weapons, that confidence could only grow. Is it that much of a stretch to believe the Rams could potentially start 4-0 before they host Seattle in Week 5? Computer Hope
Computer Hope This could be an NFC Championship game preview. A lot of teams are trying to copy what the Patriots have done on offense, but the Packers seem to be taking the task seriously & I think the main guy to watch in this game might actually be Ty Montgomery. The WR turned RB can do a little bit of everything & Green Bay seems pretty comfortable with him sticking as the primary tailback. Could he be an MVP candidate? Computer Hope
Computer Hope Carolina is going to win this game because the 49ers have absolutely nothing on offense, but it’ll be worth watching to see how creative Carolina gets in using their two rookies, Christian McCaffery & Curtis Samuel. It’ll also be worth watching because of the 49ers front-7 on defense. There is no doubt that San Francisco has taken a down turn recently, but the rebuild of the defensive front-7 has went exceedingly well. Computer Hope
Computer Hope This should be a great game especially because it looks like Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is going to be able to play. For Dallas it’ll be interesting to see how the O-line holds up with a couple of new starters & if they can get a good pass rush against a below average O-line of the Giants. If Dallas gets affirmative answers to both questions then it’ll be hard to beat them again. If they don’t, the Giants get a key road win. Computer Hope
Computer Hope This game is a lot like Arizona/Detroit in that both teams aren’t expected to win their divisions but both could certainly be in line for a Wild Card spot making head to head tiebreakers exceptionally important. Minnesota has a suspect O-line, but I’m not sure the Saints are the team to exploit that weakness & turn it into a road victory. Keep an eye on Minnesota’s ability to stretch the field vertically. This was a problem last year. Computer Hope
Computer Hope I’m pretty high on the Bolts this year and for that reason I feel like this is an incredibly important game. If the Chargers are as good as I think they are going to be, they should win this game by 2 TDs because Denver shouldn’t be able to score on them while Los Angeles brings big pressure off the edge. If San Diego loses or wins close then it’ll actually feel somewhat like a loss as the Chargers wouldn’t put anyone on notice. Computer Hope

2017 PRESEASON WEEK 3 – ROOKIE REPORT

TEAM COMMENTS
Computer Hope Not much on the stat sheet for 1st Rd. LB Hassan Reddick or 2nd Rd. S Budda Baker. Reddick did look pretty good dropping back into coverage which is a good sign. Undrafted RB James Summers made a statement to make the team rushing for 40yds/TD on 10 carries. Summers is intriguing at 6’2/220lbs & had a good game when veteran RB Chris Johnson didn’t. I would have liked to have seen more out of 3rd Rd. WR Chad Williams and undrafted TE Ricky Seals-Jones, but either did much here.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Tak McKinley was excellent once again. He made 2 tackles and didn’t have a sack but got excellent pressure on the QB & helped against the run. Atlanta has to be thrilled at this point. 3rd Rd. LB Duke Reilly had a TFL & looks better each week. Undrafted WR Josh Magee had the play of the game with a 57-yard TD catch that showcased his deep ball speed. 5th Rd. RB Brian Hill got 10 carries but didn’t do anything with them. Undrafted DE Chris Odom had a huge game with 4 tackles & 2 TFL!
Computer Hope 1st Rd. CB Marlon Humphrey didn’t play in Week 3 after seeing limited time in Week 2. 2nd Rd. LB Tyus Bowser and 3rd Rd. LB Tim Williams were fantastic. Bowser had a couple tackles for loss while Williams had one. Both generated good pressure off the edge & looked really good. 6th Rd. S Chuck Clark was excellent too leading the team with 6 tackles. Undrafted RB Taquan Mizzell showed some versatility by leading the Ravens in receiving with 6 balls on 6 targets for 54yds/TD! Keep an eye out.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. CB Tre’Davious White looked good which is important now that Ronald Darby is in Philly. His play this year will be important for the Bills. 5th Rd. QB Nathan Peterman struggled going 11/23 for 93yds. This was his chance to shine in extended play but struggled throwing downfield. 2nd Rd. OT Dion Dawkins looked tremendous not allowing a pressure against a solid Ravens front and was solid in his run blocking as well. 2nd Rd. WR Zay Jones had only 3 catches on 8 targets. That isn’t good.
Computer Hope Tough game for 1st Rd. RB Christian McCaffery who couldn’t get loose in the run game & caught his only target on the day. 2nd Rd. WR Curtis Samuel got some run time and caught 4 passes, but like McCaffery couldn’t get much going. 3rd Rd. DE Daeshon Hall didn’t play after tweaking his knee earlier in the week. It is interesting that undrafted LB Ben Boulware is on this squad but hasn’t seen much time on D. Kid is a helluva football player & allowing him to sit behind Luke Kuechly & Thomas Davis is crazy!
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Mitch Trubisky looked pretty good at times going 10/15 for 128yds & a TD. Trubisky made some mental errors during the game & it looks like Mike Glennon will be the starter, but Trubisky acquitted himself well in the preseason. 2nd Rd. TE Adam Shaheen only had 1 target but caught the ball. 4th Rd. S Eddie Jackson got a bit of run time and made a tackle. 4th Rd. RB Tarik Cohen wasn’t featured this week after flashing a bit last week. I think he’s an interesting change of pace back for the Bears.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. WR John Ross finally got on the field but only had a couple of targets and didn’t make a catch. 2nd Rd. RB Joe Mixon ran for 31yds on 8 carries & caught a ball. With Jeremy Hill going down Mixon looks to get even more looks. 3rd Rd. DE Jordan Willis continues to impress with another sack. Cincy stole him in the 3rd. 4th Rd. DE Carl Lawson flashed too with a sack, TFL and QBH. The Bengals pass rush might be a lot better than we expect. 4th Rd. DT Ryan Glasgow had another really solid game inside.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Myles Garrett was a monster in Cleveland’s 13-9 win over Tampa Bay. Garrett picked up 4 QB pressures & could have racked up even more. He’s scary good at this point. 1st Rd. S Jabril Peppers picked off a Jameis Winston pass & returned it 23 yards. He was excellent against the run & pass. 2nd Rd. QB DeShone Kizer’s stat line was awful but he apparently is the starting QB for week 1 which should be interesting. 1st Rd. TE David Njoku was only targeted twice & I’d like to see that increase.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Taco Charlton had a sack & got pressure off the edge against Oakland. That’s a good sign given Dallas’ significant need there. 3rd Rd. CB Jourdan Lewis, 5th Rd. S Xavier Woods, 2nd Rd. CB Chidobe Awuzie and 4th Rd. WR Ryan Switzer all missed the game. With that many injuries it is no wonder that a lot of attention has been given to undrafted QB Cooper Rush who went 12/13 for 115yds/2TD and is making a case to be Dak Prescott’s backup QB. Not good news for Kellen Moore.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. LT Garett Bolles plays well at times and at others plays like a rookie. He’s Denver’s starting LT so he’s being thrown into the fire. I think he’ll be OK. 2nd Rd. LB Demarcus Walker had no run time while 3rd Rd. CB Brendan Langley had his best game as a pro locking down his side of the field at corner. 5th Rd. WR Isaiah McKenzie was relegated to punt return duty but didn’t do much. I’d like to see him catch some passes. 6th Rd. RB De’Angelo Henderson got 9 carries but had 34 yards & didn’t flash.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. LB Jarrad Davis was outstanding again racking up 8 tackles & laying wood whenever he can. He’s a huge hitter with speed! 3rd Rd. WR Kenny Golladay had just 1 catch on 3 targets. I’m excited about his size & upside. 4th Rd. LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin had 3 tackles and a TFL. 5th Rd. CB Jamal Agnew was good in his support role inside racking up 4 tackles. 6th Rd. QB Brad Kaaya barely played and given Jake Rudock’s play of late, Kaaya is at best the 3rd string QB for this Lions squad. That was expected.
Computer Hope 4th Rd. RB Jamaal Williams showed some versatility catching 3 balls for 46 yards & leading the Packers in receiving although he didn’t do much on the ground. 2nd Rd. S Josh Jones led GB in tackles with 6 and looks good dropping down against the run. 5th Rd. RB Aaron Jones ran for 43yds on 6 carries but showed a lot toughness & the ability to keep running after being hit. 2nd Rd. CB Kevin King & 3rd Rd. DT Montravius Adams were non-factors. I’m excited about those two players.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Deshaun Watson is essentially a terribly mistake-prone QB who can make plays with his legs which makes him look a bit better than what he is right now. Undrafted DT Eli Ankou had a 2nd straight game where he played very well. Outstanding against the run & getting inside pressure, the 6’3/330lbs NT looks legit. 2nd Rd. LB Zach Cunningham stuffed the stat sheet again. Hard to not see him getting significant time this year. 3rd Rd. RB Dont’a Foreman didn’t play! Man I really like watching that guy!
Computer Hope 1st Rd. S Malik Hooker didn’t play and there is growing concern about his health & that’s not great for the Colts. 5th Rd. LB Anthony Walker keeps producing & I think it’s safe to think he’ll be a starter this year. I really wanted to see 4th Rd. RB Marlon Mack explode but he ran for 18yds on 7 carries with one of those carries at 12yds so essentially 6 carries for 6yds! 3rd Rd. LB Tarell Basham was just OK but 2nd Rd. CB Quincy Wilson & 5th Rd. CB Nate Hairston didn’t play. Things aren’t rosy in Indianapolis.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. RB Leonard Fournette was inactive so we didn’t get a chance to see the LSU product run against a solid Carolina front. I think 2nd Rd. LT Cam Robinson played well. He got beat on a couple of plays but outside of those he passed blocked well & was solid in the run game. 4th Rd. WR DeDe Westbrook didn’t get run time which was disappointing. 3rd Rd. DE Dawuane Smoot didn’t get any run time either. 7th Rd. CB Jalen Myrick played well. 5th Rd. LB Blair Brown had another solid game. I like him.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Pat Mahomes was decent this week going 8/15 for 70 yards but Alex Smith was really good & it’s obvious Mahomes needs a couple of years to learn the NFL. 3rd Rd. RB Kareem Hunt had 9 carries for 39 yards & with Spencer Ware out of the season, Hunt becomes vital to KC’s offensive attack. 4th Rd. WR Jehu Chesson had a catch for 19 years which is nice but also 4 targets. None of Kansas City’s rookie defenders had much by way of the stat sheet which is OK because the Chiefs need offense quite a bit.
Computer Hope 5th Rd. CB Desmond King continues to impress but he’s now listed on the depth chart as a safety for the Bolts which I think could be an incredible move given King’s willingness to hit. 4th Rd. S Rayshawn Jenkins & 7th Rd. DE Isaac Rochell got a little bit of run time on defense but didn’t do much. 3rd Rd. OG Dan Feeney played well. With 1st Rd. WR Mike Williams and 2nd Rd. OG Forrest Lamp on the shelf, the Chargers have once again encountered injuries to what is seemingly a very injury cursed franchise!
Computer Hope 4th Rd. WR Josh Reynolds continues to impress leading the Rams this week with 3 catches for 71yds & 1TD! 2nd Rd. TE Gerald Everett had a couple of catches too. 3rd Rd. WR Cooper Kupp didn’t play. LA has went from a team with no weapons to drafting 3 solid guys in Reynolds, Kupp & Everett, signing Robert Woods and trading for Sammie Watkins. They already have Todd Gurley, WR Tavon Austin & TE Tyler Higbee. Wow! 6th Rd. DT Tanzel Smart continues to play exceedingly well. I love this group of guys.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Charles Harris, 5th Rd. DT Davon Godchaux and 6th Rd. DT Vincent Taylor all got some run time and played alright. At this point I would have liked to have seen more out of Harris because his edge rushing is a need for Miami. Undrafted DE Praise Martin-Oguike had a great game & has played great all preseason. He’s undersized at 6’1/254lbs but he’ll be hard to cut. 3rd Rd. CB Cordrea Tankersley was OK. The Dolphins are hoping he can occupy the nickle corner position for them this season.
Computer Hope 2nd Rd. RB Dalvin Cook only ran the ball 5 times but the Vikings barely ran at all so you can’t read too much in. 5th Rd. WR Rodney Adams flashed a bit with 3 catches for 35yds/TD. 4th Rd. DT Jaleel Johnson continued to play well. He got good inside pressure on SF’s QBs. That’s all other teams need to hear is that Minnesota has another solid defensive player to add to an already formidable unit. The Vikings beat the 49ers 32-31 this week so obviously without Cook playing, there wasn’t much happening here.
Computer Hope Undrafted LB Harvey Langi is making a case for making the Patriots 53-man roster. He had another productive game with 4 tackles. At worst he could be a helluva player on special teams with his high effort approach. Undrafted DT Adam Butler had a couple of QBH in limited time. The Vandy product has good size at 6’4/310lbs. Undrafted DBs David Jones & Kenny Moore had productive games. Undrafted S Damarius Travis looked pretty good and has some decent upside in the back end of a secondary.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. CB Marshon Lattimore got in the field finally & made a statement getting a couple of tackles & a couple of passes defended which has to make Saints Nation pretty happy! 2nd Rd. S Marcus Williams and 3rd Rd. LB Alex Anazalone both played very well on defense. 6th Rd. DE Trey Hendrickson got his hand on a ball. 3rd Rd. RB Alvin Kamara didn’t play. The Saints should be better defensively. They aren’t deep but their starting unit should be tough to handle if they can manage to stay healthy.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. TE Evan Engram had 2 catches for 32yds and could have had a 3rd if not for Jamal Adams getting in the way! I wish the G-men would cut this guy loose! 2nd Rd. DT Dalvin Tomlinson had a couple of tackles & continues to impress inside. 3rd Rd. QB Davis Webb got mop up duty only which I thought interesting. 5th Rd. DE Avery Moss had a QBH in very limited time. It’s cool to see the Youngstown St. product get some action. 4th Rd. RB Wayne Gallman had 43yds on 12 rushes & caught a pass for 11.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. S Jamal Adams perfected his Mr. Gadget shtick again playing all over the field as every type of DB you can think of and also at LB. He’s an outstanding football player. 2nd Rd. S Marcus Maye just keeps making plays & racked up 5 tackles this week. 3rd Rd. WR ArDarius Stewart caught 5 balls for 82yds & 2TDs! Stewart’s game is pretty tight. 4th Rd. WR Chad Hansen had 2 catches for 45yds. 5th Rd. LB Dylan Donahue had a solid game getting pressure on the QB. He’s INTENSE and I’m rooting for him.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. CB Gareon Conley didn’t play and is now on the PUP list. Oakland didn’t run the ball that much but 7th Rd. RB Elijah Hood got 3 carries & turned them into 20 yards. 5th Rd. LB Marquel Lee had a couple of tackles & is penciled is the Raiders starting MLB. 2nd Rd. S Obi Melifonwu had a solid game & should be decent backing up Karl Joseph & Reggie Nelson. Oakland’s corners aren’t great especially with Conley missing time but their safeties should be pretty stout. 7th Rd. DT Treyvon Hester had a sack.
Computer Hope 4th Rd. RB Donnel Pumphrey & undrafted FA RB Corey Clement had solid games. Pumphrey had 37yds on 12 carries which isn’t great but also had 5 catches for 37yds on 5 targets. Clement led the Eagles in rushing with 42yds & a TD on 9 carries. 4th Rd. WR Mack Hollins had 44yds on 5 catches with 8 targets. He’s definitely Philly’s #4 WR. 6th Rd. DT Elijah Qualls flashed a bit & adds solid depth on the D-Line. 3rd Rd. CB Rasul Douglas played well which is a good sign for the Eagles secondary going forward.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. LB TJ Watt had a solid effort which was good but obviously not as prolific as he looked in the first 2 weeks. 4th Rd. QB Josh Dobbs was 4/7 for 24yds in mop-up duty. 3rd Rd. RB James Conner picked up just 4 carries but had 26yds. 2nd Rd. WR JuJu Smith caught 3 balls for 31yds on 5 targets after missing week 2. 3rd Rd. CB Cameron Sutton also returned after missing week 2 and looked great. No return duties for Sutton this week, but I’d like to see him get a chance at few kicks and punts to bring back.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Solomon Thomas played well against the Vikings O-Line although he didn’t put much on the stat sheet. 1st Rd. LB Reuben Foster was a MONSTER. I think the 49ers got a huge steal on Foster in the last 1st. SF all of a sudden looks to have a salty defense. 3rd Rd. QB CJ Beathard was OK going 7/13 with a TD pass but did throw a pick. 5th Rd. WR Trent Taylor had 36yds on 3 catches. He’s an ideal slot guy at 5’8/175lbs. 5th Rd. DT DJ Jones had a solid game on the interior creating pressure inside.
Computer Hope 7th Rd. RB Chris Carson had another good game running for 46yds on 8 carries & also hauling in 2 balls for 44 yards on 2 targets. Carson is a load at 6’2/210lbs & injuries may have dampened his draft stock. 2nd Rd. DT Nazair Jones continues to impress & could be a force backing up Seattle’s DTs this season. 3rd Rd. CB Shaq Griffin had another impressive outing & 3rd Rd. S Delano Hill made a couple of plays. The Legion of Boom has an infusion of youth this year from the 2017 draft and it’ll be fun to watch.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. TE OJ Howard had a couple of targets that he caught but I’d like to see him become more prominent in the offense. 3rd Rd. WR Chris Godwin had another solid game leading Tampa in receiving with 4 balls for 56yds. He might end up being a steal in the 3rd round. 3rd Rd. LB Kendell Beckwith made 3 tackles while 2nd Rd. S Justin Evans had one. Both defenders looked pretty good and I still then Evans can be special. 5th Rd. RB Jeremy McNichols didn’t do much. He’s intriguing at 5’9/220lbs.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. WR Corey Davis missed his 3rd preseason game with injury issues & that has to be frustrating. 1st Rd. CB Adoree Jackson was TORCHED by Mike Glennon & Co. That isn’t a good sign and Jackson might be relegated to return duty if he doesn’t improve quickly. 3rd Rd. WR Taywan Taylor had a 48yd reception. He’s having a pretty good preseason. 3rd Rd. TE Jonnu Smith had just one target & no catches. 5th Rd. LB Jayon Brown played well in extended minutes. Not a great day to be a Tennessee draft pick.
Computer Hope 4th Rd. RB Samaje Perine & 5th Rd. TE Jeremy Sprinkle didn’t do much of anything for the Redskins against the Bengals. Of course 1st Rd. DE Jonathan Allen played well recording 3 tackles and getting solid pressure off the edge. 2nd Rd. LB Ryan Anderson didn’t play as he’s still dealing with a shoulder injury he sustained in the 1st preseason game. 7th Rd. CB Josh Holsey had a sack which looked pretty good. 3rd Rd. CB Fabian Moreau and 4th Rd. S Montae Nicholson had pretty good production here.

2017 PRESEASON WEEK 2 – ROOKIE REPORT

TEAM COMMENTS
Computer Hope 1st Rd. LB Hassan Reddick got a little bit of run time but managed a QB hit which was nice and he’s showing flash. 2nd Rd. S Budda Baker had a couple of tackles which was a little bit of drop from Week 1. 3rd Rd. WR Chad Williams had 4 targets but made just 1 catch for 14 yards. He’s pretty raw with character issues. A couple of undrafted guys did well in TE Ricky Seals-Jones & WR Krishawn Hogan. Seals-Jones is a massive WR from Texas A&M moving to TE & Hogan is 6’3. The Cards need weapons.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. edge rusher Tak McKinley had a great game going up against Steelers starting LT Alejandro Villanueva. McKinley only rushed 8 times but got a QBH and 2 hurries. 3rd Rd. LB Duke Reilly also filled it up nicely giving him now 2 solid preseason games. He can be special. 5th Rd. CB Damontae Kazee had 3 tackles which was nice to see. Frankly at this point it doesn’t matter how any other rookies play. If McKinley & Reilly fulfill their promise then Atlanta is going to be quite a bit better on defense.
Computer Hope Ravens 1st Rd. Pick CB Marlon Humphrey made his preseason debut but didn’t collect any stats and otherwise played OK. Getting on the field was a big deal. 2nd Rd. LB Tyus Bowser dropped off a little in Week 2 recording just one tackle. 3rd Rd. LB Tim Williams was solid getting a lot of pressure on the QB resulting in a sack and tackle for loss. 6th Rd. S Chuck Clark continued to get run time and cashed in with a couple of tackles. 3rd Rd. DE Chris Wormley didn’t do much in his 2nd go around.
Computer Hope 5th Rd. QB Nathan Peterman looked great inside the pocket but not so great when asked to make things happen. Peterman was 10/20 for 167yds. Tyrod Taylor looked awful so is there a competition brewing? 1st Rd. CB Tre’Davious White flashed with 4 tackles a TFL. 2nd Rd. WR Zay Jones showed up with 3 catches for 42yds. 6th Rd. LB Tanner Vallejo had a couple of tackles and is a lot like 5th Rd. LB Matt Milano as somewhat of a WIL/S hybrid type of player. Both are sort of tweeners that are tough.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. RB Christian McCaffery played just 9 snaps but in those 9 snaps he rushed 3 times for 33yds & a TD and caught 2 balls for 39 yards & 3 targets. The Titans had big problems with him. 2nd Rd. WR Curtis Samuel still has hamstring issues & you wonder what impact he’ll have. 3rd Rd. DE Daeshon Hall picked up a tackle I still think he’s going to make an impact with his motor this year. We still haven’t seen McCaffery on the field with Cam Newton as Newton has missed the first two preseason games.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Mitch Trubisky was fairly solid again going 6/8 for 60yds & a TD playing mostly the 2nd half. He got a little lucky when a would be pick was dropped & also took a sack. He’s playing well though. 2nd Rd. TE Adam Shaheen caught his only target for 9 yards. 3rd Rd. S Eddie Jackson got some run time & didn’t play bad. 4th Rd. RB Tarik Cohen started & rushed for 77 yards on 11 carries. Cohen is interesting in that he’s 5’6/170lbs! He doesn’t have the size to play in the NFL but he can carve out a role.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. WR John Ross missed the 2nd game & it’s looking like he’s going to be situational in 2017. 2nd Rd. pick Joe Mixon had a tough time rushing for 16 yards on 6 carries but catching his only target. His upside is exceptional. 3rd Rd. DE Jordan Willis had another great game getting a sack, TFL & QBH. 4th Rd. LB Carl Lawson missed time with his shoulder. 4th Rd. WR Josh Malone looked good again with 3 balls on 4 targets. 4th Rd. DT Ryan Glasgow was productive. This is a good looking draft class.
Computer Hope The #1 overall pick, DE Myles Garrett flashed again this week picking up a sack and a QB hit on just 15 pass rushing attempts. Nothing disappointing about Garrett thus far. 1st Rd. S Jabril Peppers saw action and looked good recording 4 tackles. 1st Rd. TE David Njoku had 3 targets but just 1 catch for 1 yard. 2nd Rd. QB DeShone Kizer was iffy going 8/13 or 76 yards & taking 2 sacks. 7th Rd. RB Matt Dayes ran for 15 yards on 5 carries which isn’t great but did have a 10yd run. He also caught 5 passes for 29.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Taco Charlton got after the QB a bit in Dallas’s win over the Colts in Week 2. Charlton is extremely important for the Cowboys pass rush in 2017. 2nd Rd. CB Chidobe Owuzie and 3rd Rd. CB Jourdan Lewis are still nursing injuries. Dallas needs those guys to be big parts of the defense. 4th Rd. WR Ryan Switzer also didn’t get any run time. 6th Rd. S Xavier Woods didn’t have any tackles after leading the team in Week 1. 6th Rd. CB Marquez White played pretty well. Dallas needs to see more.
Computer Hope Oddly enough the only Broncos drafted rookie to really do anything was 6th Rd. RB DeAngelo Henderson who had 6 carries 30 yards & also caught 2 balls for 20 yards. Henderson is an interesting prospect considering that the Broncos have had pretty good success historically with late round running backs. Henderson isn’t huge at 5’7 but is 200+lbs and ran a sub-4.5 40-yard dash. The last two 6th round RBs the Broncos have were Mike Anderson and a guy named Terrell Davis who now sports a yellow jacket!
Computer Hope Detroit’s 1st Rd. Jarrad Davis provided some thump in the middle with a couple of tackles. His upside is fantastic. Davis’ Florida teammate & 2nd Rd. CB Teez Tabor also played fairly well. 3rd Rd. WR Kenny Golladay didn’t have as huge a game as he did in Week 1 but caught a pass. 4th Rd. TE Michael Roberts had 2 more catches bring his preseason total to 6. 4th Rd. LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin flashed with a TFL. 5th Rd. CB Jamal Agnew wasn’t very good & 6th Rd. QB Brad Kaaya was just OK.
Computer Hope 2nd Rd. CB Kevin King had a couple of tackles and a pass defended. He’s catching on and could make the Packers secondary much better. 5th Rd. WR DeAngelo Yancey had a big game in Week 1 but didn’t catch either of his 2 targets against the Redskins. Green Bay had quite a few rookies not get much run time. 2nd Rd. S Josh Jones, 3rd Rd. DT Montravius Adams, 4th Rd. LB Vince Biegel, and 7th Rd. WR Malachi Dupre got little if any run time. Biegel could be getting on the field very soon.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Deshaun Watson didn’t look so hot going 3/10 for 102yds but he did rush for a TD and looked slippery as usual. My favorite Texans draft pick 3rd Rd. RB D’Onta Foreman ran for 17 yards & a TD on 7 carries which isn’t great but also caught both of his targets for 66yds. 2nd Rd. LB Zach Cunningham looked solid with 7 tackles & is ready I think. 5th Rd. CB Treston Decoud had a solid team in the secondary. I think the story here is that Tom Savage looked great so Watson might be behind him now.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. S Malik Hooker saw no action because of injury & this has to be concerning for the Colts after the Ryan Kelly news. 2nd Rd. CB Quincy Wilson played pretty well which at least makes up a bit for Hooker. 3rd Rd. edge rusher Tarell Basham was OK with a tackle. 4th Rd. RB Marlon Mack made his debut & had a significant impact! Mack made A LOT of people miss gaining 45 yards on just 5 carries & catching both his targets. 5th Rd. LB Anthony Walker was second on the team in tackles with 5.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. RB Leonard Fournette was out with a foot injury but 4th Rd. WR DeDe Westbrook had a MONSTER game pulling in 6 of his 7 targets for 131 yards! 2nd Rd. OT Cam Robinson did a good job. 3rd Rd. DE Dewaune Smoot had 3 tackles and a QBH. He’s playing well. 5th Rd. LB Blair Brown had a solid game. He’s an intriguing prospect at 5’11 and almost 240lbs. I’d like to see him make the 53-man roster. 7th Rd. CB Jalen Myrick got some more run time and a made a tackle. Westbrook was the story.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Pat Mahomes showed the 1st round ability that KC traded up in the draft for. Mahomes was 10/14 for 88yds/2TD & he also ran the ball 3 times for 29 yards. Arm strength was fantastic & he had no turnovers. Great night! 2nd Rd. DE Tanoh Kpassagnon looked good again with 4 QBH and I’m excited for him. 3rd Rd. RB Kareem Hunt had 8 rushes & 3 catches for 63 total yards. 4th Rd. WR Jehu Chesson caught 2 of his 4 targets for just 15 yards. 5th Rd. LB Ukeme Eligwe was utterly fantastic.
Computer Hope 3rd Rd. G Dan Feeney was very solid against the Saints playing all 3 interior line positions. Had a couple of bad plays but did a good job. 4th Rd. S Rayshawn Jenkins played well and picked up 4 tackles. 5th Rd. CB Desmond King was fantastic for the 2nd week in a row. The only catch he allowed was for 1-yard and he was even able to get pressure on the QB! King looks like a steal at the moment. 7th Rd. DE Isaac Rochelle had another solid game & I think he’ll be interesting if he can provide depth here.
Computer Hope 2nd Rd. TE Gerald Everett looked good with 4 catches on 4 targets for 30 yards. 3rd Rd. WR Cooper Kupp was a MONSTER and already looks like  Jared Goff favorite. Kupp had 6 catches for 70yds & a TD. 4th Rd. WR Josh Reynolds had a 20-yard TD reception from Sean Mannion. 6th Rd. DT Tanzel Smart was alright but not as impactful as he was in Week 1. 3rd Rd. S John Johnson had 5 tackles and did a good job in containment. LA has to be thrilled with Everett’s & Kupp’s play early on especially with Goff.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Charles Harris again didn’t record much on the stat sheet but got decent pressure and was pretty good. 3rd Rd. CB Cordrea Tankersley was outstanding in Miami’s 31-7 loss. He had one interception and dropped another. He was outstanding on underneath routes. 5th Rd. DT Davon Godchaux racked up a couple of tackles for the 2nd straight week. 6th Rd. DT Vincent Taylor flashed a bit with 4 tackles and a tackle for loss. The Phins have to be happy about Godchaux & Taylor playing well.
Computer Hope 2nd Rd. RB Dalvin Cook flashed big time rushing for 40 yards on 7 carries against Seattle’s firs team defense. Cook also caught a ball for 10 yards. 4th Rd. DT Jaleel Johnson was a monster against the run for the Vikings. Johnson had 5 tackles & 2 TFL & had 5 defensive stops on 15 running plays. As if the Vikings needed more playmakers, Johnson looks like a steal. 4th Rd. LB Ben Gedeon played well too. 6th Rd. TE Bucky Hodges caught 2 balls for 53yds & a TD. Hodges has a lot of upside as he’ll get even better.
Computer Hope New England once again was primarily looking at non-drafted free agent signings. WR Austin Carr caught 3 balls for 31 yards on 5 targets but his closest comp is Wayne Chrebet so he’s about as New England as you can get! 3rd Rd. DE Derek Rivers tore his ACL this past week and will miss the season. 4th Rd. DE Dietrich Wise didn’t do much either. Maybe the Patriots are better off without drafting anyone! DT Adam Butler played OK. LB Harvey Langi had a really good game. The BYU product had 4 tackles.
Computer Hope No run time against for 1st Rd. CB Marshon Lattimore. At this point I think the Saints would just like to see him on the field for the regular season. 2nd Rd. S Marcus Williams got a couple of tackles in limited time. 3rd Rd. RB Alvin Kamara was outstanding gaining 61 rushing yards & a score on only 5 carries while catching a pass for 22 yards. He scored on a 50-yard TD run! 3rd Rd. LB Alex Anzalone looked pretty good & the Saints will need this athleticism at LB. 6th Rd. DE Al-Quadin Muhammad was solid.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. TE Evan Engram flashed a bit in this game with 3 catches for 32 yards on 4 targets including a 21-yard catch. 2nd Rd. DT Dalvin Tomlinson did a great job again inside stuffing the run and getting pressure. He ended with 3 tackles. No 3rd Rd. QB Davis Webb action this week. 4th Rd. RB Wayne Gallman was decent racking up 42 total yards along with 2 catches on 3 targets. I really liked Gallman at Clemson but I can’t wait to see what Paul Perkins does this year. Gallman & Perkins can make a duo.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. S Jamal Adams and 2nd Rd. S Marcus Maye were doing work against Detroit with 3 and 5 tackles respectively. The Jets might not win a ton of games, but that duo will be worth watching. 3rd Rd. WR ArDarius Stewart caught both his targets for 23 yards. 5th Rd. TE Jordan Leggett looked really good with 2 catches for 40 yards & had solid chemistry with QB Bryce Petty. 6th Rd. CB Derrick Jones flashed a bit. New York isn’t going to be that great, but at this point the rookies are doing fairly well.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. CB Gareon Conley missed another game with his shins injuries. 2nd Rd. S Obi Melifonwu also didn’t get any run time. 3rd Rd. DT Eddie Vanerdoes didn’t get any counting stats either. 5th Rd. LB Marquel Lee did manage 3 tackles in a light day for Oakland rookies. 7th Rd. RB Elijah Hood got on the field but wasn’t that effective. 7th Rd. DT Treyvon Hester and 7th Rd. S Shalom Luani got in some run time and Luani flashed a bit at times. Oakland needs to see their top picks a bit more.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Derek Barnett continues his assault on the NFL with racking up 2 tackles, a sack a TFL and 2 QB hits. It’s starting to get scary thinking about how DC Jim Schwartz is going to use this guy. 3rd Rd. CB Rasul Douglas has another solid outing hoping to lessen the impact of losing 2nd Rd. CB Sidney Jones. 4th Rd. WR Mack Hollins had 5 targets but just one catch. 4th Rd. RB Donnel Pumphrey struggled again causing you wonder if his size is going to keep him from being successful in the NFL.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. LB TJ Watt wowed us last week with his pass rushing abilities. This week he turned heads with his ability to seal off the edge & defend the run. He’s outstanding! 3rd Rd. RB James Conner was a focal point of the Steelers offense rushing the ball 20 times for 98 yards! Conner was also targeted 4 times out of the backfield. 4th Rd. QB Josh Dobbs looked awful. He isn’t the heir apparent, but still needs to play better. 2nd Rd. WR JuJu Smith and 3rd Rd. CB Cameron Sutton didn’t get run time against Atlanta.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Solomon Thomas didn’t get any run time but 1st Rd. LB Reuben Foster played pretty well and was dropped back into coverage a lot like he was in Week 1. 3rd Rd. QB CJ Beathard’s stat line looks pretty good going 7/12 for 110yds/1TD, but he missed some easy throws. 5th Rd. TE George Kittle looked good with 3 balls for 33yds/TD. Kittle showed some flash on a 29-yard TD catch. 6th Rd. DE Pita Taumoepena had a solid effort and could become a good situational rusher. Good showing for SF.
Computer Hope 3rd Rd. CB Shaq Griffin got off a bit against the Vikings recording 4 tackles & 2 passes defended. Griffin has big time physical talent but needs to learn the nuances of playing corner.  He couldn’t be on a better team. 3rd Rd. S Delano Hill also chipped in 6 tackles. Griffin & Hill look pretty good & will only add to the Legion of Boom. 3rd Rd. DT Nazair Jones had another great game with 0.5 sacks and a QBH. 4th Rd. S Tedric Thompson led the team with 7 tackles. 7th Rd. RB Chris Carson had a good game.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. TE OJ Howard continues to impress. He did a solid job of blocking Calais Campbell and was able to nab 2 balls for 28 yards on 3 targets. He’s a weapon. 2nd Rd. S Justin Evans had another nice game with a pass defended. Raw but unlimited upside. 3rd Rd. WR Chris Godwin was targeted 5 times & got 2 balls for 30yds. He’s a NICE toy if he can keep improving. 3rd Rd. LB Kendell Beckwith with another solid game. 5th Rd. RB Jeremy McNichols got 11 carries but turned that into just 32 yards.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. WR Corey Davis is still out with hamstring issues but 3rd Rd. TE Jonnu Smith was great leading the Titans in receptions with 5 on 7 targets for 47yds. 3rd Rd. WR Taywan Taylor looked good again with 3 balls for 41yds. 1st Rd. CB Adoree Jackson played pretty well in the secondary & featured more in kick/punt returns which was exciting to see although he didn’t do much returning. 5th Rd. LB Jayon Brown got a bit of run time. I can’t wait to see what Corey Davis can do when healthy.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DT Jonathan Allen got limited time but did have a tackle for loss. I can’t believe that guy lasted until the 17th pick. 4th Rd. RB Samarje Perine looked a lot better this week rushing for 45 yards on 8 carries & also snagging a catch for 29yds. Perine looked like a stud & was elusive as well. 2nd Rd. edge rusher Ryan Anderson had no counting stats. 3rd Rd. CB Fabian Moreau had 3 tackles and a pass defended. 7th Rd. S Josh Harvey-Clemons got loose again & he’s looking to be a steal from Round 7.

2017 PRESEASON WEEK 1 – ROOKIE REPORT

TEAM COMMENTS
Computer Hope Hasson Reddick was Arizona’s first round pick out of Temple. Had a couple of tackles against the Cowboys in the Hall of Fame game and then didn’t do much against Oakland in Week 1. Projects to be one of Arizona ILBs. Second round pick S Budda Baker had 5 tackles against the Raiders and a PBU. I think it would be interesting to see the Cards get Baker, Tyrann Mathieu & Patrick Peterson on the field at the same time. 3rd Rd. WR Chad Williams had a catch against Dallas but not against Oakland.
Computer Hope Atlanta’s 1st Rd. pick OLB Takk McKinley is still recovering from shoulder surgery and didn’t play in Atlanta’s opener against Miami. The Falcons had to be happy about 3rd Rd. LB Duke Reilly who led the team in tackles with 5 and should combine with Deion Jones & De’Vondre Campbell to give Atlanta a tremendous ILB corps. 5th Rd. CB Demontae Kazee had a couple of tackles. He’s in the running for nickle CB. 5th RB Brian Hill didn’t look so hot with 10 yards on 9 carries. No receptions.
Computer Hope Ravens 1st Rd. Pick CB Marlon Humphrey didn’t get any run time in Baltimore’s opener against the Redskins. Second round pick OLB Tyus Bowser looked solid though with a 3 tackles and getting to the QB a couple of times. The Ravens are hoping Bowser can provide some needed pass rush. DE Chris Wormley had a TFL. Was hoping to see edge rusher Tim Williams, but he didn’t play. 6th Rd. S Chuck Clark got a hit on the QB in limited play. This was a pretty good showing for the Ravens rookies.
Computer Hope I’m not entirely sure he’s their QB of the future but getting QB Nathan Peterman was fantastic value for the Bills & he had a good opener against the Vikings going 13/25 for 112yds & a TD without taking a sack. Not bad considering it’s the Vikings. Peterman even ran the ball 4 times for 26 yards. 2nd Rd. WR Zay Jones had no run time and 1st Rd. CB Tre’Davious White had a tackle in limited time. 5th Rd. LB Matt Milano had a tackle. He’s sort of an interesting WIL/S hybrid type of player.
Computer Hope Was excited to see how Carolina got 1st Rd. RB Christian McCaffery and 2nd Rd. WR Curtis Samuel involved in the offense. Samuel didn’t get run time but McCaffery ran for 33 yards on 7 carries which wasn’t too bad. I was also curious to see how 3rd Rd. DE Daeshon Hall would play as some reports had scouts a bit down on him but he got to the QB a few times which looked pretty good. Hall is one to watch. He’s still somewhat raw with quite a bit of room to get better. I think Carolina might have stole one.
Computer Hope The obvious storyline is #2 overall pick QB Mitch Trubisky lighting it up in his first NFL action. Trubisky went 18/25 (72%) for 166yds and a TD. Trubisky took 47 snaps & looked the part of a franchise QB. It’ll be interesting to see what he does in the 2nd game. 2nd Rd. TE Adam Shaheen had a catch for 9 yards. He’s another one I’m looking forward to seeing more of. Shaheen played college ball at Ashland so he hasn’t seen much competition but he’s 6’6/280lbs with athleticism. Those guys are rare.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. WR John Ross didn’t play but I was more interested in seeing 2nd Rd. pick RB Joe Mixon. Mixon played well running for 31 yards on just 6 carries. He caught his only target resulting in 11 yards. Mixon could push Cincy to the playoffs. Cincy also had to be ecstatic over the play of 3rd Rd. DE Jordan Willis who made a few tackles & got after the QB! He looked good. 4th round WR Josh Malone caught a TD pass. 4th Round DE Carl Lawson didn’t do much. 4th Rd DT Ryan Glasgow got to the QB.
Computer Hope The #1 overall pick Myles Garrett didn’t play a ton but looked every bit the part of an ELITE pass rusher. I wanted to see Cleveland’s other 1st Round picks in DB Jabrill Peppers and TE David Njoku but Peppers basically returned kicks. The story though belongs to 2nd Rd. QB Deshone Kizer who played exceedingly well going 11/18 (61%) for 184yds & a TD. There were still some rough spots but it was a good showing. 3rd Rd. DT Larry Ogunjobi didn’t get much run time. He’s intriguing.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Taco Charlton played well for the Cowboys against the Rams getting 3 tackles, a sack, a TFL and a QBH. The Cowboys need outside pressure so Charlton playing well is a boon. Dallas also needs 2nd Rd. pick Chidobe Owuzie and 3rd Rd. pick Jourdan Lewis to play well in the secondary but neither played in Week 1. The standout player in Week 1 was 6th Rd. safety Xavier Woods who led the team with 7 tackles. Woods was a steal in the 6th round & could help fortify the secondary.
Computer Hope Slated to be Denver’s starting LT when the season starts, 1st Rd. LT Garett Bolles didn’t look so hot in Denver’s opener against the Bears. 2nd Rd. edge rusher DeMarcus Walker looked pretty good which is amazing considering he adds to Denver’s already considerable pass rushing ability. 3rd Rd. CB Brendan Langley got a bit of run time and looked good. 5th Rd. WR Isaiah McKenzie went wild catching just one pass but taking it to the paint for a 47yd TD! McKenzie has some juice to his game.
Computer Hope Detroit’s 1st Rd. pick LB Jarrad Davis wasn’t anything to write home about. He didn’t play much. CB Teez Tabor got some run time and made 3 tackles. 3rd Rd. WR Kenny Golladay had a FANTASTIC day catching 3 balls for 53 yards including 2TD! Golladay has a huge ceiling with his size at 6’4/220lbs. 4th Rd TE Mike Roberts caught 4 balls! 4th Rd. LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin had 6 tackles. 5th Rd. CB Jamal Agnew & 6th Rd. DE Jeremiah Ledbetter played well. 6th Rd. QB Brad Kaaya was great.
Computer Hope 2nd Rd. CB Kevin King had a solid game making some wrap up tackles but getting beat on a couple of balls. He’s still learning. 2nd Rd. S Josh Jones had a great game grading out as one of Green Bay’s top players & making 4 tackles. 3rd Rd. DT Montravious Adams and 4th Rd. LB Vince Beigel didn’t get any run time. 5th Rd. WR DeAngelo Yancey showed some flash with 3 catches for 67 yards. King & Jones playing well is a great for Green Bay as their secondary getting better improves the team.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Deshaun Watson is clearly going to make it a battle with Tom Savage to start at QB. Watson looked pretty good going 15/25 for 179yds. He also ran for 24yds & a TD looking pretty slippery. 3rd Rd. RB Dont’a Foreman also went off rushing for 76 yards on only 9 carries and also caught 2 balls. I know Houston has Lamar Miller but Foreman is a BEAST! 2nd Rd. LB Zach Cunningham led the team with 7 tackles. 4th Rd. DT Carlos Watkins was solid. Overall a very good day for Houston.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. S Malik Hooker got into the game early & did patrol centerfield for the Colts but didn’t see a ton of action but did make 4 tackles. 2nd Rd. CB Quincy Wilson got quite a bit of run time and made 4 tackles. 3rd Rd. edge rusher Tarell Basham had a tackle for loss and played well. I was hoping to see 4th Rd RB Marlon Mack, but he didn’t play. 5th Rd. LB Anthony Walker had a couple of tackles and I think he has a chance to be good. Indy has to be pleased with the effort of their defensive rookies.
Computer Hope Advanced metrics weren’t too pleased with 1st Rd. RB Leonard Fournette, but the LSU product did run for 31yds and a score. He didn’t lack for confidence after the game either which you have to like. 2nd Rd. OT Cam Robinson was outstanding not allowing a sack & looking even better run blocking than pass protecting! 3rd Rd. DE Dawuane Smoot looked good with 6 tackles. 4th Rd. WR DeDe Westbrook had only 1 catch but it was for a 42 yard TD! 7th Rd. CB Jalen Myrick made a couple of tackles.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. QB Pat Mahomes did a great job going 7/9 for 49yds & a TD. Mahomes took some time getting rid of the football but it’s early still & he impressed. 2nd Rd. DE Tanoh Kpassagnon didn’t get a ton of run time but is a load at 6’7/285lbs. 5th Rd. LB Ukeme Eligwe was pretty active in the middle recording 5 tackles. Kansas City didn’t get much out of their skill position draft picks, 3rd Rd. RB Kareem Hunt and 4th Rd. WR Jehu Chesson. Still, Mahomes is the story here & KC has to be pretty happy.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. WR Mike Williams didn’t play as he’s recovering from a back injury. LA hopes to have him in October. 2nd Rd. OG Forrest Lamp was injured before preseason games start & will miss the entire season. 3rd Rd. OG Dan Feeney was OK. 4th Rd. safety Rayshawn Jenkins had 6 tackles while 5th Rd. CB Desmond King had a tremendous game picking up 4 tackles and a pass defended. 7th Rd. DE Isaac Rochell played well with 5 tackles, a QBH and a half sack. He could be interesting going forward.
Computer Hope 2nd Rd. TE Gerald Everett looked decent with 2 catches while 3rd Rd. WR Cooper Kupp looked tremendous grabbing 2 balls for 35 yards, one for 19 and the other for 16. Kupp even had a tackle. 6th Rd. DT Tanzel Smart didn’t get a ton of run time but was very disruptive when he was on the field. Smart is kind of interesting because he’s built a lot like Aaron Donald with some of the same traits. He’ll get to learn from Donald so I wonder if he’ll maximize his talents? Donald & Smart together would be fun.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Charles Harris was OK but mostly went up against a tackle from tackle from Atlanta that was a recent convert from TE. He didn’t accumulate any stats but got some decent pressure at times. 2nd Rd. LB Raekwon McMillan has been lost for the season due to injury. That’s a big loss. 3rd Rd. CB Cordrea Tankersley led the team with 6 tackles but was just OK in pass coverage. 5th Rd. DT Davon Godchaux had a couple of tackles and I know Miami is hoping he can play alongside Ndamukong Suh.
Computer Hope 2nd Rd. RB Dalvin Cook showed a lot of teams they made a mistake passing on him. Cook ran for 13 yards on 5 carries but caught all 4 of his targets for 30 yards. He completely changes the offense. 3rd Rd. C Pat Elflein played well and should continue to do so. 4th Rd TD Jaleel Johnson had a great game grabbing a sack, TFL and QBH. 4th Rd. LB Ben Gedeon had 6 tackles. Undrafted DE Tayshawn Bower was dominant against backups notching a sack and 2 QBH. 5th Rd. WR Rodney Adams caught a TD pass.
Computer Hope 4th Rd. Dietrich Wise made a couple of tackles but the Patriots don’t have very much by way of rookies seeing how they converted quite a few of their draft picks into Kony Ealy and Brandin Cooks. Undrafted TE Jacob Hollister lost his mind catching 7 balls on 9 targets for 116 yards! The two targets he missed were uncatchable. Undrafted RB LeShun Daniels led NE in carries with 11 and had 39 yards. Undrafted WR Austin Carr had 5 catches for 44yds/TD. Undrafted S Damarius Travis was good.
Computer Hope No playing time for 1st Rd. CB Marshon Lattimore which has to be concerning given his injury history. 3rd Rd. LB Alex Anzalone had a great game with 3 tackles and excellent physical ability. 2nd Rd. S Marcus Williams was OK. 1st Rd. OT Ryan Ramczyk didn’t play. 3rd Rd. RB Alvin Kamara looked good running for 35 yards on just 4 carries including a 22-yard jaunt. The Saints need to get their 1st round picks on the field but Williams & Anazalone’s play has to feel pretty good for the defense.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. TE Evan Engram caught one ball for 11 yards but has a chance to be special in this offense. 2nd Rd. DT Dalvin Tomlinson had a great game with 4 tackles and lots of run stops. He even got some inside pressure. New York has to feel good about him replacing Jonathan Hankins. 3rd Rd. QB Davis Webb was just OK but has an odd pocket presence about him. 4th Rd. Wayne Gallman wasn’t particularly effective. The Giants didn’t have a ton of draft picks but Engram and Tomlinson played well enough.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. S Jamal Adams barely played but was versatile lining up as a S, LB and CB. Can you believe he actually plays for the Jets!? 2nd Rd. S Marcus Maye was decent too giving New York’s secondary future a very bright outlook. 3rd Rd. WR ArDarius Stewart caught one ball as did 4th Rd. WR Chad Hansen and 5th Rd. TE Jordan Leggett. For the most part nobody hit any home runs for the Jets in their draft class, but Adams flashed an that is really what Jets fans should be concerned with.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. CB Gareon Conley didn’t play and it’s unclear when he will get on the field with some type of shins injury. 2nd Rd S Obi Melifonwu didn’t get any run time either.  3rd Rd. DT Eddie Vanderdoes got a little bit of time in. I like his game. 5th Rd. LB Marquel Lee was 2nd on the team in tackles with 6 & got quite a bit of playing time. 7th Rd. S Shalom Luani had an outstanding game with 6 tackles and a pass defended. Oakland went big on defense in ’17 draft and their late round picks have shown well.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Derek Barnett was outstanding with 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 TFL and 2 QBH on only 16 pass rush snaps! 2nd Rd. CB Sidney Jones is out for the year with an Achilles injury but 3rd Rd. CB Rasul Douglas had a great game and 4th Rd. WR Mack Hollins flashed huge with 4 catches for 64 yards & a TD! 4th Rd. RB Donnel Pumphrey ran for just 5 yards on 4 carries but I was excited to see him. 6th Rd. DT Elijah Qualls had a big day notching 4 pressures and a run stop. Very excited about Barnett.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. LB TJ Watt was A MONSTER! Watt got a ton of run time with 62 snaps but cashed in with 5 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 TFL, 3 QBH and a pass defended. 2nd Rd. WR JuJu Smith only caught 1 ball for 4 yards. 4th Rd. QB Josh Dobbs had a brutal start to the game, but showed good ability on deep balls which was nice. I was really hoping to see 3rd Rd. RB James Connor and 3rd Rd. CB Cameron Sutton get some run time but neither did. I really liked them as college players and Connor has a fantastic story.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. DE Solomon Thomas was outstanding playing with the 1st and 2nd units. Thomas did a great job getting pressure on the QB but also sealing the edge against the run. 1st Rd. LB Reuben Foster was just as good showing a tremendous ability to drop back into coverage. 3rd Rd. QB CJ Beathard looked good in garbage time going 7/11 for 101 & 2TD although he took 2 sacks. 4th Rd. RB Joe Williams looked good rushing for 60 yards on just 7 carries! 5th Rd. WR Trent Taylor caught a couple of balls too.
Computer Hope 3rd Rd. DT Nazair Jones had a great game playing 34 snaps and recording 4 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 QBH and 1 pass broken up. Seattle fans have to be ecstatic about Jones’ play given the 2nd Rd. DT Malik McDowell’s ATV injury this past offseason that will probably cost McDowell all of 2017. 4th Rd. S Tedric Thompson had a couple of tackles. 7th Rd. RB Chris Carson ran for 2TD & 19 yards on 7 carries. 7th Rd. WR David Moore made a couple of catches & is a good looking receiver trying to make the 53-man roster.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. TE OJ Howard didn’t have a single target but lined up as the TE with the first unit and showed solid blocking ability. 2nd Rd. S Justin Evans has a chance to be a special player in the NFL and he got off to a good start making 5 tackles. 3rd Rd. LB Kendell Beckwith had a monster game with 5 tackles, a sack and a TFL! I was hoping to see Tampa potentially cut 5th Rd. RB Jeremy McNichols loose a bit but he only got 2 carries that went for 12 yards and had just a single target in the passing game.
Computer Hope 1st Rd. WR Corey Davis didn’t play which was disappointing but he’s nursing a hamstring injury & should be ready to go soon. 1st Rd. CB Adoree Jackson showed his versatility lining up at CB but also returning kicks. He looked good against the run. 3rd Rd. WR Taywan Taylor led the Titans in receiving with 4 receptions for 56 yards & was targeted 9 times! 5th Rd. LB Jayon Brown had 4 tackles/1 TFL. 3rd Rd. TE Jonnu Smith was targeted twice but didn’t make any catches. Can’t wait to see what he can do.
Computer Hope Arguably the best player in the 2017 NFL Draft, 1st Rd. DE Jonathan Allen didn’t disappoint racking up a sack and a QB hit in only 21 snaps playing with the first team. 2nd Rd. LB Ryan Anderson didn’t disappoint either racking up a lot of QB pressure off the edge in his debut. 4th Rd. RB Samarje Perine didn’t look so hot rushing for 15 yards on 6 carries. 5th Rd. TE Jeremy Sprinkle had a catch. 6th Rd. WR Robert Davis had a catch & he’s a very intriguing prospect at WR. 7th Rd. S Josh Harvey Clemons was good.

2017 NFC WEST PREVIEW AND PREDICTIONS

The NFC West has been the most split division in football the last 3 seasons. Arizona and Seattle over the last 3 years have combined for a 63-31-2 record while the 49ers & Rams have combined to finish 32-64 over the same time span. The records are almost exactly the opposite of one another & it averages out to the Seahawks & Cardinals going 11-5 every year while the 49ers & Rams finish 5-11. It’s an interesting dilemma that was made very apparent the moment Jim Harbaugh left the 49ers for Ann Arbor.

Speaking of the 49ers, has there ever been a time when such an historically great team has fallen this far this fast? The San Francisco 49ers are without a doubt the worst team in football in my opinion and they might be that way for the foreseeable future unless they can get a QB soon via the draft and it work out in spades. While the defense is full of young talent, they are moving towards a 4-3 scheme which goes against what kind of defensive playmakers they’ve been drafting of late considering they’ve spent quite a bit of draft capital on 3-4 defensive ends.

The Rams aren’t much better off unless Jared Goff improve dramatically so I’d expect there to be the same split within the division that there has been over the past few seasons. What’s really interesting to me about the division and how it will unfold is the play of Cardinals QB Carson Palmer. Palmer wasn’t great over the last half of the season and the Cardinals limped their way to a 7-8-1 record to finish the year. Palmer contemplated retiring this off-season but is coming back for his age-38 season so who knows how it’ll turn out. What’s interesting to me is if Palmer hits the wall because of age, you could arguably be looking at by far the worst division in football that will look eerily similar to what New England has faced the past decade plus with a top heavy dominant team in Seattle followed by 3 non-competitive teams for the most part.

I’m not sure we are looking at competitive playoff teams outside of the Seahawks, but this division is compelling in the sense that you have to wonder what direction the other three teams going? This becomes especially true if age catches up with Carson Palmer and Jared Goff as another bad season as a sophomore. That would seemingly put the division in a tailspin with the Seahawks in a Patriots like situation.

Note: Teams are listed in the order I think they’ll finish for the 2017 NFL season.

TEAM NFC WEST
Computer Hope Seattle has the potential to have some juice offensively but their O-Line projects to be downright woeful yet again which should cause even the most ardent Seahawks fan to question management in trying to keep Wilson upright & healthy. Seattle has some weapons on offense such as Doug Baldwin, Jimmy Graham, Tyler Lockett & potentially Eddie Lacy, but if Wilson gets killed it won’t matter. Defensively the Seahawks are still good enough to get back to the Super Bowl. Injuries are essentially the only thing that can stop Seattle. Cliff Avril hurt probably cost them a Super Bowl. Last year Earl Thomas was hurt. Health matters.
Computer Hope Arizona might have problems on offense. The thought that Carson Palmer is going to be solid is a perilous one given how worn out Palmer was last season. The receiving corps can’t keep relying on Larry Fitzgerald and the O-Line isn’t so good. Arizona has shown a reluctance to give David Johnson the ball 30 times a game and if that remains true in 2017 I could see issues offensively. Defensively the Cardinals should be formidable. I love the draft picks of Hassan Reddick & Budda Baker. They’ll combine with Chandler Jones, Deone Bucannon, Tyrann Mathieu & Patrick Peterson to be dynamic. I think the offense lags behind.
Computer Hope The Rams are trying exceedingly hard to put QB Jared Goff in a position to succeed. They went out and signed Robert Woods this offseason and drafted WRs Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds along with TE Gerald Everett. They then trade for Sammy Watkins a week ago. Todd Gurley should rebound and the Rams still have Tavon Austin to use as a situational weapon. The O-Line also upgraded with the additions of John Sullivan & Andrew Whitworth. Defensively I don’t quite understand the idea of going to a 3-4 especially with Aaron Donald around so that is a head-scratcher but this season is about Goff’s improvement.
Computer Hope This is by far the worst team in football. At least the Jets have an average to below average front-7 and offensive line. Every unit the 49ers are going to throw on the field in 2017 projects as below average. How horrible must it feel to be Colin Kaepernick when the 49ers are throwing out Brian Hoyer, Matt Barkley and CJ Beathard at QB and you can’t get a phone call? Defensively the 49ers are intriguing. Solomon Thomas & Reuben Foster were home run draft pics but they are still rookies. I like Eric Reid, NaVorro Bowman, Aaron Lynch, Arik Armstead & DeForest Buckner, but this is a very young defense with big questions.
