2015 NFL WEEK 2 – PREVIEW

For the past few years I’ve always done BIG GAMES in the NFL, but last year that ended up being every game of every week so instead of saying these are BIG GAMES, I’m just going to preview the entire week. This actually makes more sense, and when you really break it down, each week in the NFL is huge because of the playoff implications & tiebreaker rules that affect the seeding. Early season games always seem to be a little less acute than late season games, but that is a false sense of security for teams who lose early. These early games matter. Just ask those teams involved with the tie breakers in January!

ROAD QUICK THOUGHTS HOME
Computer Hope Rex Ryan really knows how to stir the pot doesn’t he? The Bills are letting Tom Brady have it over deflategate and to be honest I don’t blame them. With the way Buffalo dismantled the Colts this past Sunday, they have a little swagger to throw around. I can’t wait to see this game. Marcel Dareus returns & Buffalo’s D-Line is infinitely better than what the Patriots saw last week from the Steelers. Keep in mind that a Buffalo win essentially puts them up 2 games on New England. Wow. Computer Hope
Computer Hope This is a huge game for Denver. The Peyton Manning haters are out in full force after #18’s performance against Baltimore. Unfortunately for Manning, this game in Arrowhead might be even tougher against a defense that is just as good! The good news for Denver is that their defense is spectacular and Alex Smith isn’t exactly an elite QB although I’m starting to have a greater appreciation for the guy. The Chiefs are a playoff team & need the home win. Let’s see which Peyton shows up. Computer Hope
Computer Hope This game is VERY interesting! From 2009-2012 no team that started 0-2 went on to make the playoffs. In 2013 Carolina started 0-2 but was bounced in the divisional round. Last year Indianapolis started 0-2 & made it to the AFC Championship game. Keep in mind that Seattle doesn’t play in a weak division like those 2 squads & they are on the road against Green Bay without Kam Chancellor. St. Louis is likely going to 2-0. What if Arizona & San Francisco do too? Dark times ahead. Computer Hope
Computer Hope The Cowboys go from one division rival to the next as they lucked out last week in a win over the Giants, but now have to go to Philadelphia against an Eagles squad that almost came back & got a win in Atlanta. Last week you saw a lot of the old Cowboys “style” come back as Tony Romo dominated the game through the air while Dallas was reluctant to run. That isn’t a winning formula & Dallas is also dealing with tremendous injuries. DeMarco Murray will be MOTIVATED to run! Computer Hope
Computer Hope This is an interesting game when you start talking about the playoffs. If you assume San Diego & Cincinnati aren’t going to win their divisions, then the Wild Card is their only avenue to the postseason & thus games like this are HUGE in tiebreaking situations. Things couldn’t have gone better for Cincy in the opener against Oakland & Tyler Eifert brings another dimension to the offense. SD looked awfully good against Detroit last week although it took them awhile to get going. Computer Hope
Computer Hope I think the 49ers put the NFL on notice last week in their 20-3 win over Minnesota. Granted, you could argue that everyone was overrated the Vikings to start the season, but I don’t see that being the case meaning San Francisco is legit. Carlos Hyde is a monster & Pittsburgh has big problems with their defensive front-7. If Hyde can get going this week then SF has the perfect gameplan to upset Pittsburgh & start the Steelers off at 0-2 which doesn’t portend to playoff appearances. I’m glad for SF. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Unfortunately one of these teams is going to start the season off 0-2. Detroit was a playoff team last year so losing to the Vikings almost puts them in 3rd place and I’m not sure I see them getting better. That means regression for Matthew Stafford & Detroit’s coaching staff. The Lions lost a big lead on the road last week in San Diego & that can’t feel good. As for the Vikings, I can’t see them losing here. I’m not a huge Teddy Bridgewater fan, but I’m a HUGE Mike Zimmer fan. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Things could blow up in Indianapolis really quick. Frank Gore didn’t look so good in Week 1. Neither did Andre Johnson & now TY Hilton probably won’t play. Indy had issues with Buffalo’s D-Line & that isn’t going to change with a very aggressive Jets front-4. Indianapolis also has problems defensively. They are hurting in the secondary & Robert Mathis isn’t going to play. Maybe they can pull it together, but I think Kevin Grigson & Chuck Pagano are on very warm seats with Jim Irsay. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Atlanta walked away with a win over Philly last week but I think if the Eagles were given another quarter they would have caught & beat the Falcons. Atlanta looked OK although to be honest they were a Julio Jones highlight reel puntunated by Matt Bryant kicking 3 40-yard FGs which pretty much iced the game. One thing to watch this week is that the Falcons could get to Sam Bradford once. If Eli Manning stays upright this Sunday, he should pick apart Atlanta. Computer Hope
Computer Hope All the Cardinals do is win with Carson Palmer! I think people are sleeping on the Bears this year. Sure they lost to Green Bay last week but a lot of teams are going to lose to Green Bay. Remember that Chicago was up 13-10 at halftime & down just 17-16 after 3 quarters. Chicago really is cursed with Jay Cutler. He got Chicago into GB territory twice & came away with a turnover on downs & a pick that led to a GB TD. I really like Chicago’s coaching staff, but Cutler is gonna Cutler. Computer Hope
Computer Hope If St. Louis wins this game they could potentially have an effective 3 game lead over Seattle should the Seahawks lose to the Packers! This is almost a must win for St. Louis as the schedule gets very difficult from this point forward. The only “easy” games they’ll have left are home dates against Cleveland & Tampa Bay. Making matters worse is that I don’t think Washington is that bad. The defense is decent & I think Kirk Cousins will get better. This one is close. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Although they wound up losing 27-20, the Texans were down 27-9 late in the 4th quarter so it wasn’t like the game was in doubt. That was a tough loss for Houston but maybe they needed that loss to figure out Ryan Mallett was the guy & Brian Hoyer wasn’t. Either way, the defense is entirely too good for Houston not to be a real threat to win the South & Arian Foster is close to coming back. Carolina will find this AFC South opponent will be much tougher than last week’s. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Last week we had a couple of Heisman trophy winners matching up in Mariota & Winston. This week we get another one with Mariota & Manziel! The Titans & Mariota probably weren’t as good as they showed last week in thumping Tampa 42-14, but Mariota is good & the Titans have weapons. The O-Line isn’t bad. Bishop Sankey can run & the receivers are solid. Defensively having Brian Orakpo & Derek Morgan is a huge plus. The Titans could easily be up 2 games in the South. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Cincinnati torched Oakland last week and the Ravens are better than Cincinnati so it looks like Jack Del Rio probably will have to wait another week before he has a chance to pick up his first win when the Raiders travel to Cleveland. I think Oakland will show better this week especially if Derek Carr can play the whole games but I doubt Baltimore loses. Keep an eye on Buck Allen for the Ravens. With Justin Forsett a little beat up, Allen could put on a show back in Cali! Computer Hope
Computer Hope Tampa Bay sucks & Jameis Winston isn’t ready to be a starting NFL QB so maybe the Saints walk away with a dominant win & people will talk about them being a playoff threat, but this simply isn’t the same New Orleans team. You see a lot going on with Rob Ryan & Sean Payton on the sidelines. Yes the Saints defense should be better, but offensively New Orleans is terrible. They basically have no run game & Brandin Cooks needs to be AJ Green now. Brees deserves better. Computer Hope
Computer Hope Not particularly interesting because Jacksonville is terrible. I’d really like to see Miami come out and put on a show. The Dolphins got off to a rough start last week against the Redskins which was a little surprising. This week I’d like to see Ryan Tannehill start carving up th Jags defense early. Jarvis Landry put on a show last week & fits nicely as Miami’s go to receiver something Miami needs. The Dolphins have a great opportunity to start 2-0 and they need to capitalize. Computer Hope
