No Sleep Till Football

Like Brooklyn Except It's Football

Running for Liberty!

Get my joke? We are “RUNNING FOR LIBERTY?” You know, Liberty in the sense of Independence! As in the Independence Bowl! We are running because Air Force & Georgia Tech are the top-2 ranked rushing offenses in college football! I’m killing myself here!

In a larger sense this game is probably more about redemption for Georgia Tech. They might not be with their starting QB Josh Nesbitt because he’s recovering from a broken arm, but if he can play and the Yellow Jackets can win, there will be some sense of salvaging the season. After running wild to an 11-2 mark last season including an ACC Championship, Georgia Tech struggled mightily this season barely getting bowl eligible at 6-6. Some of that is the Jackets losing 2-3 close games that could have put them at 9-3. Some of it is luck though. Last year they beat Virginia Tech whereas this year they lost to them. I’m not sure the ACC was so much better this season, but Paul Johnson had a rougher time. Josh Nesbitt missed 3 games, but also keep in mind that Georgia Tech was +8 in TO margin in 2009 whereas in 2010 they were -2.

I think also the ACC needs the win. It’s the first bowl game for the conference & after a disappointing season, I think the teams within the ACC could do quite a bit to gain a bit of respect with some bowl victories.

INDEPENDENCE BOWL
Air Force 8-4
Comments Georgia Tech 6-6
You can certainly expect a lot of running in this game. Both teams are the top-2 ranked rushing teams in the NCAA while the passing attacks are 2 of the worst 3. Both teams run option attacks with the Falcons going triple option while GT runs more of a spread style. Interestingly enough, neither team is very good at stopping the run! GT QB Josh Nesbitt might not play which would certainly give Air Force a significant advantage. Should be fun.
