NCAA Football Week 11 – Must See Games

Better late than never right! I can’t believe how fast these weeks are catching up to me! We have a pretty good slate of 16 games on tap today which is impressive. At this point in the season we are looking for good finishes, moral victories & positioning for bowl games. To a degree we are also looking for teams to have something to build on for next year. This is certainly the case for Notre Dame where the season has all of a sudden gone down the drain FAST, but yet the Irish still have 3 games against Utah, Army & USC. They certainly need to beat Army, but they need to play as hard as they possibly can against the Utes & Trojans simply to build into next year when hopefully the injury bug won’t hammer the Irish as bad as it did in 2010.

The other goals are very interesting. Coaches like Skip Holtz, Derek Dooley, Charlie Strong & Butch Jones are trying to get to bowl games in their first year at a new school. At the same time there are definitely conference championships that have yet to be decided. The Big XII South is a mess that could see Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor or Oklahoma St. come out on top. Oddly enough the one team in the Big XII South that CANNOT win the division is the Texas Longhorns. The same is going true for the SEC East today when South Carolina travels to Gainesville where a winner-take-all game is going to decide who comes out of the East to play in the SEC Championship game.

Most importantly are the teams trying to keep pace. Auburn, Oregon & TCU have pretty good games that they’ll play today. Auburn hosts Georgia, Oregon travels to Cal, and TCU hosts San Diego St. Boise St. already throttled Idaho last night so it’s now the other 3 undefeated teams turn to see if they can hold serve. All 3 teams should win, but the games should at least be competitive & all three teams will have to show up in order to secure a convincing victory. There is lots to see today. Here are the best 16 games of the weekend.

ROAD HOME PREDICTION
Both teams have 5 wins & don’t forget that South Florida & Louisville have new coaches in Skip Holtz & Charlie Strong. Whoever wins today gets bowl eligible which is a huge deal especially for Strong & the Cardinals. Plus the Big East is a mess so who knows how it’ll shake out.
A win here gets WVU bowl eligible but I wouldn’t count out Cincinnati. Both teams are 1-2 in the conference & with Pittsburgh losing to UConn this past Thursday anything is possible. A 4-game winning streak to get to 5-2 in conference could mean a BCS bowl!
Tennessee’s SEC schedule was heavily front loaded. You knew the Vols were going to start 3-6, but their last 3 games are against Ole Miss, Vandy & Kentucky with only Vandy on the road. Would be huge for Derek Dooley to get the Vols to 6-6 & a bowl. It starts today.
I still think Missouri is a solid football team but they need to stop the bleeding pretty fast. Their next 2 game against K-State & Iowa St. aren’t easy & if they screw up they could be 8-4 by season’s end. They won’t win the North but they at least need to finish in 2nd place.
The game before the showdown in Tuscaloosa! Auburn should win this game, but Georgia is Georgia & it’s not like they can’t be a helluva football team with the talent they have. The Cam Newton stories keep swirling so it’ll be interesting to see how focused War Eagle is.
The Buckeyes are 8-1, but it’s a soft 8-1. Their back schedule is significant & if they win out to 11-1 it’ll be hard to overlook them for a BCS bowl. I wonder how Ohio St. is a top-10 team given their schedule, but if they roll Penn St., Iowa & Michigan they’ll be deserving.
Oklahoma is a completely different team at home than what it is on the road so this could be blowout city for the Sooners, but Texas Tech has beaten Missouri & Baylor this year so they could put up a decent fight. Oklahoma could still win the South, but they have to win out.
Oh what could have been in the ACC! There is no real significance to this game, but if VT wins they’ll have 8-2 with an 8-game winning streak which is going to get them ranked higher & higher. If UNC wins they’ll be 7-3 with an outside shot at winning the Coastal. Good game.
TCU should hammer San Diego St., but remember this is another nail is Boise St.’s coffin. While the Broncos are beating up on Idaho for crying out loud, TCU is taking on a 7-2 squad which looks pretty good even if they do wind up winning 59-3.
Great game. Baylor could win the South & here is how. They finish up their schedule with 2 home games against A&M & Oklahoma. If they win out & Oklahoma St. loses to Oklahoma & Texas, then Baylor at 9-3 wins the South. Then again, if A&M wins out they win the South if the OSU loses twice. Intriguing.
Five of the 6 SEC West schools are 7-2 or better! GOOD GRIEF! One of the better stories of the year is Mississippi St. who is WAY under the radar at 7-2 because of how great the SEC West is. A win here for MSU has to have them thinking top-10. Alabama needs to get right.
I have no faith in Stephen Garcia on the road especially in a place like the Swamp, but how amazing is Florida’s season turning out? Nobody thinks they are very good but a win here gives them the SEC East. A shocking win in the SEC Championship game puts them in the BCS!
A lot of people think that if there is a game Oregon can lose it’s this game on the road against Cal. I’m not buying that, but I see the logic of it. I think Oregon wins here, but if they pull off some crazy 65-10 win then we need to just cancel the season. Oregon is the VERY BEST team.
Like Mississippi St., Oklahoma St. is a FANTASTIC story this season. They can win out & I’d love to see them win the Big XII game to get to 12-1 in a year everyone thought would be a down one in Stillwater. Then again, OSU plays Texas & Oklahoma still so they could be very disappointed after a great start.
The win over Iowa propelled Arizona into the national rankings. I’m still buying, but they got hammered at Stanford last week & their schedule is severely back loaded. They still have Oregon after this one & losing to USC puts the season in the toilet.
Solid WAC game between 6-2 Fresno St. & 8-1 Nevada. This game is even bigger because the Boise St. implications. A Nevada win here puts the Wolfpack at 9-1 which sets up a big showdown in Reno against the Broncos. Then again Pat Hill always has a great team & Fresno is playing at home. Boise needs Nevada!
