SIAC Regionals – Matchups

I’m not quite as confident about the SIAC’s chances in regionals as I was about their prospects in sectionals. I knew the conference was going to get sectional champions in Classes 2A, 3A & 4A, but Castle surprised me a little bit. Interestingly enough, Sectional 7 was got blown up too so it’s possible the Knights could reach semi-state despite having a regular season record of 3-6. I’ll give Castle a 50/50 shot at getting past Bloomington North especially so because the game is a home one for the Knights.

The one game that has an SIAC school as a decisive underdog has to be Bosse taking on Indian Creek. Indian Creek is 11-1 & was the #5 team in Class 3A entering the playoffs. Indian Creek hasn’t played an Evansville team in at least 17 years. Maybe longer. I only have individual game scores going back to 1994 & this is the first time Indian Creek will take on a school from Evansville going back to 1994. For all we know they’ve never played an Evansville school. It might not make much difference, but it’ll be interesting to see if Bosse keeps the good times rolling.

Castle won the sectionals in 2008 but then got hammered by Center Grove in regionals. How Bloomington North got out of Sectional 7 I’ll never know but this is a battle between two .500 teams at 6-6. The last time Castle won a regional was 1994. They won the state finals that year too.
Last year East Central was 10-2 when they hosted Reitz in the regionals. Reitz won that game 52-28. This year East Central is 11-1, but Reitz is playing in the Reitz Bowl & this Reitz team is arguably better than the 2009 version. You do the math.
Who really knows for sure? Bosse is 5-7, but they play some heavy hitters in Evansville. Indian Creek is 11-1 & ranked #7. If Bosse can beat Memorial & Washington, my guess is that they can beat Indian Creek. I’d love it if this game was at Enlow, but on the road it is.
These two met in the 2001 regionals where Mater Dei beat Brownstown 55-39 in the Braves’ backyard. There is no doubt Brownstown is having a great year at 11-1 & ranked #9, but I don’t see how they beat Mater Dei on the road. I’ll be shocked if the Wildcats lose this one.
