SIAC Sectionals Week 2 – Matchups

Sectional semifinals up this week with 6 SIAC teams still in the mix plus Washington. We know one of the teams definitely won’t advance as Evansville Bosse travels to Washington meaning only one advances. I’m somewhat pulling for Bosse as they’ve improved every single step of the way this season, but Washington is WAY TOO good for the Bulldogs to get by.

Other than that it should be another great weekend for the SIAC. Outside of Bosse I think ever other team in the SIAC comes away with a win. The most interesting game could be Mt. Vernon/Memorial as they are somewhat similar in how their seasons play out. It’s the last great weekend though for the SIAC. If the conference teams win then we’ll be set up for a Reitz/Central sectional final in Class 4A along with a Washington/Memorial sectional final in Class 3A.

I think the SIAC is going to claim sectional titles in Classes 4A, 3A & 2A. Even Castle has a shot at potentially slipping by Floyd Central in Class 5A if they take care of Jennings Co. this weekend. Let’s get to it!

After destroying Princeton last week 83-21, Memorial draws 6-4 Mt. Vernon. Mt. Vernon is a tricky team much in the same way as Memorial. They’ve lost 4 games, but they’ve been to ranked teams so the schedule is misleading. On the other hand, Memorial’s losses have come against much grater competition. Memorial rolls but doesn’t get 83.
9-1 Mater Dei visit’s 8-2 Forest Park in the sectional 32 semifinal. This is a pretty good game as MD is ranked 5th & FP is ranked 12th in Class 2A. They don’t have any common opponents, but I’d be sorely disappointed if Mater Dei didn’t come through a convincing victory. After beating Sullivan last week 62-0, the Wildcats look extremely good.
#12 (Class 4A) Central brings their 8-2 record on the road against Owen Valley. All you really need to know is that Owen Valley probably should have gotten hammered last week by Evansville Harrison! That doesn’t mean good things for the Patriots although Central’s offense wasn’t exactly humming last week in their 21-7 win over Seymore. Central wins, which will give them Reitz.
After beating Bedford in 2OT last week, Castle stays at home & welcomes in Jennings County. Castle should get this win which will make them 5-6 & playing most likely Floyd Central for the Sectional 8 championship. I”m not sure the Knights can pull off a sectional championship but it certainly would make a bad season a bit more palatable.
Last week Bosse scored 83 points. Last week Washington scored 70 points. That’s pretty amazing, but Bosse’s luck runs out here. Bosse is great at the skill positions, but their defense is extremely soft & Joe McCormick should eat it up. It would be an incredible win for Bosse, but Washington is simply way too good & will wear down Bosse’s defense.
#1 (Class 4A) Reitz beat #3 (Class 4A) Jasper 47-20 last week when both teams were 9-0. This week Reitz goes on the road to unranked 8-2 Northview. It’s a great record for the Knights, but if Reitz put 50 on the #3 team in the state how much chance does Northview really have? Reitz goes up to Northview & pulls their pants down in front of the home crowd in a game that might end up 66-10.
