No Sleep Till Football

Like Brooklyn Except It's Football

60-13? Are You Serious?

I know you can’t use these forms of logic with sports because it simply doesn’t compute, but think about this for a minute:

#1 Oregon 60, UCLA 13
UCLA 34, #7 Texas 12
Texas 20, #5 Nebraska 13

Does that mean:

#1 Oregon would beat Texas by 69 points?
#1 Oregon would beat Nebraska by 76 points?

Obviously that isn’t the case, but consider this for a moment:

Oregon scores 0.92 points per minute of football which = 55.1ppg.
They have created 25 turnovers which = 3.6 turnovers per game.
They are +12 in TO margin which is on pace for a +22-23 margin for the season.
They are +275 in point differential. That’s a Pythagorean of .924!

I don’t see how anyone can think Oregon IS NOT the #1 team in the nation right now. They are #2 in the BCS behind Oklahoma currently & I suppose this is understandable given the Ducks schedule thus far. The only real win is over Stanford & Oregon has yet to go on the road & get a decisive win away from Autzen Stadium.

The other downside to Oregon is that currently they’ll only play 2 ranked teams. Stanford was ranked #9 when Oregon beat them 52-31. The other ranked team is Arizona who is currently ranked #15, but Oregon will face the Wildcats in Eugene. At this point there is no ranked team Oregon will have to play on the road.

Right now I think the Pac 10 is being a bit underrated by the various polls. Oregon’s remaining schedule is:

10/30: @ USC
11/6: Washington
11/13: @ California
11/26: Arizona
12/4: @ Oregon St.

It’s not an easy road & if the Ducks manage to finish 12-0, I don’t see how they aren’t playing for a national title. Either way, what Oregon did last night to UCLA was nothing short of humiliating. Unlike Boise St. or TCU, Oregon probably doesn’t have to win games with as many style points as possible, but seeing how they are close to averaging 60ppg & beating their opponents on average by 40ppg, it’s safe to say that Oregon & Chip Kelly are definitely trying to leave no room for interpretation.

This is the #1 team in the nation.
