SIAC Week 3 – Match Ups

Can you believe it’s already Week 3 in the high school football season here in Indiana? I can’t. What have learned this past 2 weeks? Well it’s obvious that Castle stinks. The other obvious fact is that Evansville’s west side is where football powers reside with Reitz & Mater Dei storming out of the gate with a couple of big wins. For me there have been a couple of surprises. The first is just how good Memorial’s defense is. If QB Dane Hurley can make some things happen on offense (8.5ppg so far) then the Tigers could be extremely dangerous in Class 3A. The other surprise for me is Bosse. I’m not sure the Bulldogs are going to place really high in the SIAC after allowing 50 to North in week 1, but Darrell Killebrew is certain to make things exciting.

Let’s get to Week 3.

ROAD HOME PREDICTION
For my boy BIG TIMBER, I’m putting #9 (Class 3A) Washington in the mix! This week they travel to Princeton. All you need to know is that the Hatchets have outscored their opponents 98-7 while Princeton has been outscored 8-103! Washington cruises to a 3-0 record.
Castle will probably pick up their first win here at home over Bosse, but I sure would like to see the Bulldogs pull off a stunner. It’ll be a pretty cool RB matchup as Castle’s Logan Hayford has rushed for 461yards & Bosse’s Darrell Killebrew has 341 through 2 games.
I thought this would be a better game than it’s turned out to be. After Central got hammered by Mater Dei, I give them about a -57% chance of beating Reitz in the Reitz Bowl. If Mater Dei was able to put up 38pts on Central, then they are going to have a hard time keeping it under 50 against #1 (Class 4A) Reitz.
This one could be tricky, but I think North probably wins it in the end. Harrison has played two good games so far and probably should be 2-0, but I think the Huskies are a bit more competition than West Vigo & Indianapolis Tech. The Warriors keep it close though.
The Catholic school showdown! Both teams are actually ranked too. Mater Dei is #5 (Class 2A) & Memorial is #6 (Class 3A). Memorial has problems offensively & Mater Dei was able to shut down Central so I think the Tigers aren’t going to score. However, Memorial’s defense is nasty. Mater Dei scores just enough to get the win.
