SIAC Week 2 – Match Ups

We’re going Week 2 in the SIAC baby! A lot of road games for the conference this week. A total of 5 teams are on the road and if you count conference games, then 6 SIAC teams will be the visitors this weekend. Yours truly will be at Franklin Central High School tonight to see the Flashes take on Indianapolis Roncalli. Not an SIAC game, but it’ll have to do here in central Indiana. Let’s get to the SIAC!

The Castle Knights get their first road game this week against the New Albany Bulldogs. The Bulldogs lost to 2A Providence last week 47-46 despite having a decisive size advantage. They are one of the worst teams in Class 5A in the state of Indiana meaning Castle should pick up its first win of the season.
The best game of the week as #11 (5A) Central hosts #6 (2A) Mater Dei. I think Central gets the edge here. It’s a home game for the Bears plus they have too many playmakers. Great QB duel too between Mater Dei’s Dane Mauer & Central’s Jacob Hester.
Despite losing to Jasper, Memorial is still #5 (3A). Memorial played a tough game last week against a great team. The defense was stout and sophomore QB Dane Hurley was solid if not spectacular. Owensboro Apollo isn’t a ranked team in Kentucky, and I can’t see Memorial starting off 0-2.
Another Kentucky team, I don’t know anything about Marshall County other than they aren’t ranked. I’ll call for a homer pick and take Bosse because they played North so tough. Bosse is bigger & faster than people give them credit for so I’ll call for them to get a victory here.
Henderson Co. had Reitz down 20-19 after 3Q. North is no Reitz so I think Henderson Co. gets the win here. North was impressive putting up 50pts on Bosse, but this should be a lot stiffer test and if North gets down they don’t have a QB like Matt McIntosh to lead a 4Q comeback.
Indianapolis Tech isn’t a great team, but they get a home game against Harrison who is now 1-31 in their last 32 games. Harrison got a 3-0 win last week against West Vigo which was great, but they couldn’t score and relied on about a billion turnovers to get the win. I’m guessing those stars won’t align again.
A brutal test for the #1 (4A) Reitz Panthers. This is the opener for the #5 (5A) Owensboro Red Devils. I think Owensboro gets the win. Reitz had too many problems with Henderson Co. last week & Owenboro is one of the top teams in KY. It’s no knock against Reitz, but if they lose I’m not sure it’s an upset.
