Tuberville Headed to Texas Tech

ESPN is reporting that former Auburn HC Tommy Tuberville will be the next HC at Texas Tech. Tuberville was probably let go unfairly at Auburn after a down year for the Tigers in 2008. I think Chizik & Malzahn did a great job in 2009 for Auburn and the program is probably in better hands, but it’s hard to argue with how Tuberville got the job done.

It will be quite a different system though for Texas Tech. Auburn under Tuberville was more of a power running team on offense with exceptional defense. Texas Tech has been running a crazy spread attack under Leach with average to below average defense for awhile.

What might be most interesting about this is seeing how Tuberville’s style of play will fair in the Big XII. The Big XII has become mostly a spread offense type of league, something Tuberville probably doesn’t want to run.

With Texas Tech out of the mix, we still have vacancies at South Florida, Central Michigan, and of course, USC.
