No Sleep Till Football

Like Brooklyn Except It's Football

Jake Locker to NFL: No Thanks.

It’s being reported that Washington QB Jake Locker is going to say for his senior season and play for the Huskies. This is obviously great news for college football fans as Locker is one of the most dynamic QBs in the college game right now.

Locker was thought to be a top-5 pick and there was talk that he might have been able to work his way into the overall #1 selection had he stayed in. Currently (as of 12/10) at CBS Draft Scout, both of their mock drafts had Locker going #3 overall to the St. Louis Rams. ESPN’s Mel Kiper had Locker as the #5 overall prospect as of 12/9 and the 2nd best QB of the draft behind Jimmy Claussen of Notre Dame. Scouts Inc. had Locker at #9 overall, but the #1 QB available for the 2010 NFL Draft.

Locker has always had ridiculous physical skills, but what really helped him in my opinion is the switch in offfense brought about with new HC Steve Sarkisian. Locker ran more of a spread option offense under Ty Willingham at Washington, but Sarkisian brought in a pro-style offense and Locker flourished under it. Locker also took Washington to a 5-7 season after an 0-12 debacle that ended up with Willingham getting canned.

The Pac 10 is going to be exceptional next season with Oregon & USC returning so many players. Washington will be in the thick of things though with 17 returning starters! Great news for college football fans.
